Rosebery Steading sits in the heart of the Midlothian countryside, framed by rolling fields, seasonal blooms, and open skies. Originally a collection of stone farm buildings, the steading has been restored with care, retaining character while offering light-filled, versatile spaces. Courtyards, meadows, and garden areas provide quiet corners and striking backdrops for photography, allowing each couple to create a wedding that feels both intimate and celebratory. From the warmth of exposed beams to the textures of stone walls, every corner invites your guests to relax into the day.
Couples can exchange vows outdoors in the courtyard or the meadow, where the open-air setting allows guests to soak in the surrounding countryside. Indoors, the Hayloft Barn offers a flexible, welcoming space, with soft lighting, exposed beams, and timeless stone walls. The space is flexible, allowing for meaningful touches such as bespoke décor, ensuring the ceremony reflects the couple’s style.
For a more traditional setting, ceremonies can also be held at Rosebery Chapel, a charming space within the grounds of Rosebery House (an additional hire charge applies).
The steading’s indoor and outdoor spaces allow celebrations to flow naturally. The Courtyard is ideal for drinks and canapés, complete with whisky barrel tables, a central firepit, and heated seating. In cooler months, The Pumphouse bar and Hayloft provide a cosy alternative.
Rosebery Steading accommodates wedding parties across five properties, sleeping up to 28 guests. Each retains original features, stone walls, and exposed beams, while offering contemporary comforts and private spaces. Guests wake to views over gardens and the countryside, enjoying the quiet of a rural setting while remaining part of the wedding weekend. On-site accommodation allows the celebrations to continue naturally, with the convenience of stepping between bedrooms and reception spaces without leaving the estate.
Dining at Rosebery Steading is flexible and thoughtful. Couples can choose from a curated panel of local caterers, ensuring menus suit personal tastes and dietary needs. Canapés, drinks, and full sit-down meals or buffet-style feasts can be served indoors or in the courtyard, depending on season and style. Presentation and timing are considered, from cocktails during drinks receptions to multi-course meals. Locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce underpin the food experience, offering both flavourful dishes and a connection to the surrounding region.
Sustainability is integrated into Rosebery Steading’s operations. Local, seasonal produce reduces food miles, and recycling and composting practices minimise waste. Energy-efficient lighting and water-saving facilities complement the carefully maintained grounds. Rustic furnishings, reclaimed materials, and reusable décor reflect a considered approach to environmental impact, enabling couples to plan memorable, responsible celebrations.
The Midlothian surroundings offer a mix of history, culture, and outdoor pursuits. Rosslyn Chapel, Dalkeith Country Park, and the Moorfoot Hills are nearby, alongside cafés, traditional pubs, and boutique shops. Guests can enjoy walks, fishing, paddleboarding, and golf, turning the wedding into a wider countryside escape. Temple village provides a peaceful base, while Edinburgh city centre is within easy reach for day trips, sightseeing, or additional overnight stays.
Rosebery Steading is approximately 35 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. It is easily accessible by car via the A7 and A68, with Edinburgh Waverley Station and Edinburgh Airport providing convenient connections for local and destination guests.
