Set on the Rosebery Estate in Temple, near Gorebridge, Rosebery House occupies rolling Midlothian farmland, bordered by woodland and open fields. The countryside offers a sense of calm and privacy, yet the city is never far: Edinburgh is a 30-minute drive away. The mansion itself commands attention with its Georgian proportions and classic stonework, while gardens and lawns provide light-filled, open spaces for outdoor moments. From manicured borders to mature trees and gently undulating farmland, every part of the property invites a photograph or a pause to take in the wide Scottish sky.
For an indoor ceremony, the private chapel at Rosebery House offers an intimate and timeless setting. The stone-built chapel is surrounded by gardens and woodland, giving it a peaceful, secluded feel. Soft, natural light filters through the large windows, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The space can be personalised with floral arrangements or subtle décor to suit the couple’s style. The chapel’s historic charm and peaceful surroundings make the exchange of vows feel deeply personal and memorable.
As an alternative, an outdoor ceremony on the expansive lawn allows couples to celebrate amidst the mature trees and manicured gardens. The wide-open space offers a bright, airy, and picturesque setting, perfect for couples who want to get married surrounded by nature.
Rosebery House offers versatile reception spaces, indoors and out, to suit the atmosphere you wish to create. The Courtyard and Patio extend from the mansion, where guests can enjoy drinks and canapés in the gardens. The Courtyard feels intimate, suited to gentle music and conversation, while the Patio opens onto broader views of the estate, inviting a more airy, celebratory mood.
Indoors, the sitting and drawing rooms provide warmth, heritage features, and large windows overlooking the gardens. Here, guests can linger over cocktails in a refined, inviting environment, protected from the elements but still connected to the surrounding landscape. Both options allow the reception to flow naturally from the ceremony to the evening.
Accommodation for up to 28 guests is available at the nearby Rosebery Steading, providing a convenient and charming option for those attending a wedding at Rosebery House. Set within the estate, the Steading offers comfortable, well-appointed rooms in a historic, beautifully restored building, allowing guests to stay close to the celebrations. Availability is subject to advance booking.
