About
Setting

Queen’s House stands at the heart of Greenwich, surrounded by sweeping parkland and river views. Part of Royal Museums Greenwich, this architectural landmark forms the centrepiece of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, the Peter Harrison Planetarium, and the Cutty Sark.

Designed by Inigo Jones in the early 17th century, the Queen’s House was the first classical building in England – a royal retreat created for pleasure, art and celebration. Today, its perfect symmetry, grand colonnades, and striking marble floors offer a timeless backdrop for modern weddings. With Greenwich Park on one side and the Thames on the other, it balances history and contemporary London energy – an extraordinary setting in every sense.

Ceremony

The Great Hall offers one of the most striking settings for ceremonies in London. Its iconic, geometric harmony, black-and-white marble floor and gallery above create a sense of theatre and intimacy for up to 120 guests. Vows are exchanged beneath soaring ceilings and vast windows overlooking Greenwich Park.

Afterwards, couples can step out onto the Great Hall Terrace for a confetti moment framed by the House’s iconic façade – a scene that has graced countless wedding photographs.

Reception

Celebrations flow effortlessly from one elegant space to another. The Orangery and South Parlours offer light-filled rooms for drinks receptions, with French doors opening onto the lawns and views across Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory. The adjoining balcony is an intimate spot for newlyweds to pause together and take in the scene below.

Dinner follows in the Great Hall, now transformed for the wedding breakfast beneath its grand marble floor and domed ceiling. As evening falls, guests can move down to The Undercroft – three atmospheric vaulted rooms beneath the Hall – for music, dancing and late-night celebration.

Accommodation

As a Grade I listed building and museum, Queen’s House does not provide on-site accommodation. However, the events team partners with trusted nearby hotels and can share recommendations to suit different styles, budgets and group sizes – keeping guests close and logistics simple.

Food & Drink

Queen’s House works exclusively with accredited catering and production partners who understand the building’s unique heritage and event requirements. Couples can choose from a curated list of approved suppliers for catering, floristry and styling, each selected for creativity and professionalism.

Menus, décor and lighting can be fully tailored to your vision, supported by a production package that includes a PA system and coloured lighting for the Great Hall and Undercroft. From elegant dinners to late-night celebrations, every element is designed to reflect your style and story.

Sustainability

Queen’s House and Royal Museums Greenwich are committed to hosting events responsibly. The venue follows an environmental sustainability policy aimed at reducing waste, conserving energy, and supporting sustainable practices across all operations. Couples can review the full policy on the museum’s website.

Local Area

Located in the heart of Greenwich Village, Queen’s House sits within one of London’s most beautiful historic districts. The area combines royal heritage with vibrant local life – from artisan cafés and riverside pubs to world-class art and culture. Guests can explore Greenwich Park, the Cutty Sark, or the Observatory, all within walking distance.

With panoramic views across the park to one side and the Canary Wharf skyline on the other, the setting captures both old and new London.

Getting There

Queen’s House is easily reached by public transport, with Greenwich station, Cutty Sark DLR and river services all nearby. The venue lies in Zone 2, offering excellent access from central London, and parking is available in the surrounding area for guests who prefer to drive.

FAQs
Is the venue accessible?

We believe that accessibility should be regarded as continual work in progress. As a collection of historical buildings, we have worked to ensure accessibility across our sites. We are pleased to say that Queen's House is currently wheelchair accessible. For further access requirements, kindly contact us, and we will be very happy to discuss with you in more detail.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve accessibility across our museums, and we welcome any feedback you may have. Please reach out to events@rmg.co.uk or call us on 0208 312 8517.

What is the booking procedure?

Provisional dates can be held on confirmation of a site visit, without commitment, for two weeks. Couples will always be given notice and an opportunity to confirm before a provisionally held date is released. Once couples have notified us that they would like to book an event, a contract is issued, which must be returned within 7 days along with a deposit invoice.

Can I bring my own catering?

Due to the sensitive nature of our buildings and collections, only our approved catering, floristry, and production suppliers are permitted. We work with a handpicked list of approved suppliers, which you can contact for more information. We've worked hard to ensure there is a good selection of suppliers to accommodate each client's specific needs and price points. Working closely with these suppliers, we are more than happy to make specific recommendations that we think will work well for your event.

Are there any restrictions when hiring the venue?

Due to the historic floors and collections, you will need to consider the following:

- We allow light coloured drink service only during standing receptions in the Queen's House

- Lilies and flowers with staining stamens are permitted only with stamens removed.

- Our venue has outdoor space permitted for smoking; however, indoor smoking, naked flames, candles, confetti, balloons, and dry ice are not allowed.

- We kindly ask guests not to wear stiletto heels in the Queen's House. Any guests who do will be given a heel protector upon arrival.

Is there parking on site?

Unfortunately, there is no parking available on site; however, there are local car parks, and we are just a few minutes walk from Cutty Sark DLR and Greenwich mainline train. Access is also available on Thames riverboat services.
