Paintworks offers a blank canvas where no two weddings are the same. It is a space that allows for the expression of unique styles, making it perfect for a DIY wedding. The venue encourages creativity, allowing couples to bring in their preferred suppliers, hire furniture, and decorate ceilings, walls, and outdoor spaces. The only limit is imagination. Paintworks is part of the regeneration of 12 acres of industrial buildings along the banks of the River Avon, where many of the original buildings have been preserved and restored.
The Paintworks team has experience with a variety of themed weddings, including Viking-themed winter weddings, a 1950s Hawaii hula feel, and even Halloween-inspired weddings. Their wedding manager, Eider, is available to guide couples through all the planning steps and can suggest layout and décor ideas to suit specific requirements.
The venue is licensed to hold ceremonies for up to 140 guests in the Theatre End of the space. This intimate area features a unique L-shaped walking aisle and offers two different layout options, catering to small and large ceremonies. The space also boasts a fantastic viewing gallery, adding a dramatic touch to the ceremony.
The cosy ceremony space is transformed into a dance floor during the drinks reception, allowing the party to start without removing the dining tables. The dining and bar area features an impressive 4.5-meter ceiling height with a rugged concrete ceiling, exposed central steel columns, and roof joists. This space is perfect for hanging ceiling décor like lanterns, drapes, or floral disco ball installations. As a blank canvas venue, Paintworks offers the versatility to choose from various floor plans and themes, enabling couples to create a wedding that best suits their vision.
The in-house caterers, Relish, are highly regarded and offer a wide range of food and service styles, from sit-down dinners to buffets, sharing platters, BBQs, and live cooking stations. They also manage the bar and can provide drink packages to suit the event.
Relish is committed to using locally sourced products wherever possible and supporting local suppliers.
Paintworks Event Space is at the heart of sustainable development, with double glazing, highly efficient heating, and well-insulated walls. The site has a recycling policy with multiple glass, paper, cardboard, tins, and plastic recycling points. Verve Properties, the site’s owner and developer, is committed to sustainability and has been recognized with several awards for its regeneration. These include the British Astronomical Association Sky Friendly Exterior Lighting Award, the Civic Trust Award 2008, and others.
The venue is a 12-minute walk from Temple Meads train station and is on the main A4 bus route between Bristol City Centre and Bath. While limited parking is available on-site, guests are encouraged to use public transport if possible.
Mat and I would like to say a huge thank you for all of your help on the run up to our big day as well as on the day itself. We had the most wonderful day and we couldn’t have chosen a better venue. It looked absolutely magical all lit up and decorated and we had many, many comments about what a fabulous venue it was and how fantastic it looked.
The ceremony felt incredibly intimate and it was so special to have everyone so close around us really feeling like part of the ceremony – it was just what we wanted. We both just want to do the whole day all over again.
We couldn’t have organised it without your help and advice either, so thank you for all of that along the way.
Thank you so much to you and Jess for helping make yesterday such a success. We’re just so grateful for your calmness and pragmatism to pull it off. You’ve been such a pleasure to work with! We’re really really pleased with how the wedding went and you played a big part in that.
Married June 2024
Many thanks to all the Paintworks team that made my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding so special. This was their third attempt over the past 16 months and at last it happened. Your staff were attentive and friendly, the venue was perfect, and Tom and Laura loved every minute of their wedding day.
From the moment we met Eider and visited Paintworks, we fell in love with the space and knew we wanted to get married there. We had big dreams on how we wanted the space to look and feel for the day and Eider helped us with suppliers and figuring out how things can work in the venue. Eider and her team made everything feel so easy and calm; there was never a stressful moment throughout the planning set-up or on the day! We loved that Paintworks is a complete blank canvas, and it feels like the options are endless with what you can achieve in the space, so we filled it with trees and lights to give an outside inside feel! I love telling people that we were married in Paintworks and will always recommend it to people on top of the beautiful venue space. Eider and her team are an absolute dream to work with.
Married September 2023
Thank you seems like too small a word for what you guys did for us. You made our dreams come true on Saturday and we had the wedding we had always pictured, despite what is going on with the world… so thank you!
Thank you so much for all your support in the lead up to and on the day of our wedding. You were both so helpful and made many great suggestions to improve the look and feel of the day. We honestly had such and amazing time and very little stress thanks to yourselves. It really was the perfect venue for us!
Married September 2023
Absolutely. Our Wedding Manager, Eider, has plenty of experience and is always keen to get involved in your planning and inspire you on décor and layout. She will also coordinate all your suppliers, ensure everything arrives on time, and help you set up. Eider or another staff member will also be here to help on the day, as will the catering managers and door attendants.
You can choose your ceremony time; we will be ready an hour before. We will also take care of any on-the-day deliveries, such as cake and flowers, so you don't need to worry about anything apart from getting ready.
We don't generally allow outside catering but sometimes make exceptions for cultural or religious reasons.
Of course, you can bring your own cake, doughnuts, cheese, or whatever you want as your "wedding cake," provided you ask the caterer to serve it and clear it afterwards. You can also bring your own fizz and wine and pay corkage, so our staff will store, chill, and serve it for you.
As a blank canvas, everything must be put into place, from the lighting to the flowers. An average set-up time is 12 hours, so we break it into two days. On Friday, our A/V and lighting supplier will put up the lighting and large décor, and we will set up the furniture. This gives you and your family/friends time in the afternoon to place flowers, plan the table, place cards, etc.
