The Setting
Sitting on the hill above Bowness on Windermere, Lindeth Fell is handily placed and easy to reach —but it is utterly secluded and private. It feels a million miles from anywhere and is equally peaceful and quiet.
Located in the heart of the South Lake District, Lindeth is 30 minutes from J36 on the M6 via dual carriageway and then country A roads to the entrance. There is private, off-road, free parking.
It is 10 minutes by taxi from Windermere Station, which has four short scenic stops on the Oxenholme West Coast Mainline between London Euston and Manchester Airport.
Once at Lindeth Fell, it is easy to explore the spectacular Lake District National Park, which sits in the heart of the lakes above England’s largest lake, Windermere.
The village of Bowness on Windermere is a few minutes away on foot and by car – with its assortment of shops and cafes and Windermere Lake Cruises on the Glebe (including hire of private electric boats or rowing boats) for trips around the lake. An extended 20-minute walk to Bowness takes part of the lakeshore itself, leading to the shops and bars in Bowness—the primary bus services through the central lakes run from here, too.
There are nearby walks, meaning you don’t have to use the car to explore. The local fell, Ghyll Head, has sweeping views along Lake Windermere and the surrounding mountains.
The Vibe
The Edwardian Arts & Crafts House and beautifully mature contemporary gardens offer a relaxing and luxurious environment. Refurbished in 2024, the new and stylish interiors enhance the setting. As a 5-star Luxury B&B, it offers more than expected, with a bar and restaurant, plus all-day dining menus—with a lounge and library for guest use. The garden terraces come into their own in Summer, extending the spaces for outdoor living.
Lindeth is set back into woodland, opening out into swathes of garden terraces and lawns that gently cascade down the hill. All you see are lush gardens, glimpses of Lake Windermere, and out over the West shoreline to the Coniston mountain range.
The House & Grounds
Lindeth Fell has a luxurious ‘Secret Garden’ vibe. It is a dreamily romantic property. Built-in 1909 as a holiday home, it retains that sense of leisurely Edwardian relaxed elegance that embraces you on arrival. Even though it is on the outskirts of Bowness on Windermere, it is completely private and secluded, overlooked by no one and peacefully quiet. In turn, the beautiful views take glimpses of the tree-fringed lake and Claife Heights and over to the Coniston mountains. It is a small Country House of comfortable and relaxed proportions, with 7 acres of private gardens.
The house and garden are contemporary to each other and remain unspoilt; the Thomas Mawson-designed garden has had over 100 years to mature beautifully. Lushly planted terraces and almost tree-sized multicoloured rhododendrons launch Springtime in spectacular style – and the gardens continue to bloom for months. The terraces wrap around the ground floor and face the views – extending the interiors outdoors when sunny, creating more living space for drinks and dining.
Your Ceremony
There are four licensed ceremony spaces, two indoors and two outdoors. All are suitable for Exclusive Use ceremonies for up to 26 friends and family or Just-for-Two elopements.
Inside, the options are the Wedgewood blue lounge and stylish library on the ground floor and outdoors on the lawns or by the lily pond in the gardens.
Food & Drink
For your Wedding Day celebrations, there is a choice of menu and dining options, from Champagne and Canapés (or drinks of choice), a three-course sit-down Wedding Breakfast, informal barbeque, or evening menu. These can be served on the terraces (weather permitting), in the bar, or in the West-facing restaurant.
Accommodation
Currently, Lindeth Fell has 14 bedrooms, two of which are single occupancy. All bedrooms are ensuite, and while the ground floor is wheelchair accessible and suitable for guests with limited mobility, one large ground-floor bedroom is also accessible.
The Team
Think of Lindeth Fell as your dream home away from home, with a dedicated and experienced team on-site to help you create and deliver your perfect day. Between them, they bring a wealth of experience from other leading Lake District establishments, and you’ll be in very safe hands. If you are looking for an intimate and beautiful wedding venue that will work with you through your plans to deliver your perfect memorable day, Lindeth Fell is the venue for you.
