The Setting
The house is set in 1,500 acres of gorgeous Somerset countryside in the village of North Cadbury. It’s a rural setting but easily accessible by road and train from London and the rest of the South West. The Montgomery family are the owners and it’s been their family home for more than 100 years. They have created a comfortable, warm environment emphasising fun and enjoyment with no corkage and no late-night curfew in the basement disco and casino. The rental includes many indoor and outdoor activities, so it’s a house with lots to offer, whatever the season.
The Vibe
Steeped in British history yet relaxed and incredibly comfortable. Stunning wood-panelled rooms, cosy lounges with huge fireplaces and sweeping staircases. Two floors of beautiful bedrooms and amazing bathrooms – each one totally individual and with stunning decor. From small ceremonies in the North Hall to elaborate affairs in the Ballroom. With a church next door or the option to have a celebrant in the gardens, you are free to choose the wedding you want.
Up to 80 guests can stay in the main house and coach house cottages, with extra accommodation in the private yacht club and funky modern annexe. There are no set packages, no corkage charge, and no night curfew on parties in the cellar disco and casino, so there are plenty of opportunities to have fun!
Unlike a hotel, the house and grounds are exclusively yours during your stay. You can design your own wedding the way you want it. The events team are on hand to guide you, or there are independent planners to take the pressure off and leave you to enjoy your special day.
Civil ceremonies take place either in the Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 200 guests, or the North Hall, which can accommodate up to 150 guests. The North Hall is ideal for a grand entrance from the oak staircase.
Pretty St Michael’s Church is next door, and it has a private entrance to the grounds. The team can happily assist with submitting an application to have your wedding there.
Outdoor weddings are just the best here, and there are several popular options – in the garden gazebo, by the lake or on the lawns close to the house. You are welcome to use a marquee, and there are glamping options on the grounds for extra guests.
After the ceremony, our attractive lawns and terrace are perfect for drinks receptions. Indoors, there’s the Morning Room, Library, and North Hall—lovely spaces for drinks and canapés.
The Ballroom seats 150, and the North Hall seats 80 for wedding breakfasts. Afterwards dance the night away in any of these rooms or the basement disco. Then, become a high roller in the fully stocked cellar casino!
Their experienced events team will set up an on-site planning meeting and virtual meetings in advance of your big day. They will guide you with catering, flowers, music, entertainment, and activities. One will be on-site to oversee everything on the big day, and two evening managers will look after guests late into the evening.
Before and after the wedding, make sure you have plenty of fun using all the toys! There’s rooftop golf, pedalos on the lake, bumper balls, a swimming pool, a spa, lawn tennis and a squash court. Or just take some long walks in the glorious parklands.
