Newhall Estate

Newhall Estate sits on the outskirts of Edinburgh, close to the city yet with the sense of being somewhere entirely apart. Home to the Kennedy family for decades, the historic estate has long welcomed generations of families through its doors, and that sense of family remains central to its character.

For a wedding weekend, the house and grounds become the couple’s home from Friday until Sunday evening. They can light fires for their arrival and prepare the dining room for family dinners, with each stay shaped around how they want to spend their time at Newhall. From the Walled Garden and historic house to the newly renovated Coach House, the estate offers spaces for both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations throughout the year.

For an outdoor ceremony, the Walled Garden provides a secluded setting within the estate grounds. Indoors, the elegant Sun Room can comfortably seat up to 100 guests, giving couples an alternative whatever the weather.

This flexibility makes Newhall a year-round venue, moving between gardens and the warmth of the house as the seasons change. Couples can plan around the spaces they most want to use without relying on fine weather for the day to work.

The newly renovated Coach House seats up to 150 guests for dinner, while smaller celebrations can take place around the table in Newhall’s dining room. With the estate available from Friday until Sunday evening, the wedding can extend beyond a single day, giving guests time to settle into the house and grounds.

Weekends can also include activities such as clay pigeon shooting, archery, 4×4 driving, Highland Games and barbecues. The latter two work particularly well for bringing everyone together again the following day. Fireworks can also be arranged on request.

Newhall House accommodates up to 29 guests, allowing close family and friends to stay at the heart of the celebration. A further 11 guests can stay on the estate across The Steading, The Bothy and Stable Flat.

There is also an accessible bedroom on the ground floor of Newhall House, with accessible toilets available both within the house and the function space.

Newhall works with a trusted panel of caterers, giving couples the opportunity to create a bespoke menu around their tastes and weekend plans. Catering can range from simple drinks through to generous receptions and full weekends centred around food and entertaining.

The dining room also provides a more intimate setting for family meals and smaller wedding celebrations, while the wider weekend can include relaxed barbecues for guests.
