New House Farm sits in the Lorton Valley, surrounded by some of the Lake District’s most celebrated scenery. Built in 1650, the farmhouse has retained many of its original features, combining centuries of character with thoughtful modern comforts. From here, the views stretch towards Crummock Water, with High Stile and Red Pike rising in the distance, creating a setting that feels deeply connected to the landscape.
The surrounding fells, lakes and valleys provide an ever-changing backdrop throughout the seasons. Couples can choose from a collection of characterful spaces for their ceremony. The ancient barn accommodates up to 130 guests and showcases exposed timber beams alongside traditional features that reflect the building’s heritage. For smaller gatherings, the country house offers a more intimate setting for up to 20 guests.
The Cart Shed provides another distinctive option, with uninterrupted views towards Buttermere and Haystacks through its glazed gable end. A sandstone fireplace brings warmth on cooler days, while the surrounding scenery ensures every ceremony feels rooted in the landscape beyond the windows.
Following the ceremony, guests can gather outdoors for drinks while taking in the views across the surrounding countryside. The landscape provides a striking backdrop for photographs, allowing couples to make the most of the venue’s location before moving into the celebrations.
Reception celebrations take place in The Hayloft, an original Lakeland barn restored using traditional materials. Oak beams, exposed stone walls and contemporary facilities create a versatile setting that can be tailored to suit different styles and ideas. The Cart Shed can also host drinks receptions, while The Milking Parlour offers a welcoming space for smaller celebrations, whether for a seated meal of up to 16 guests or a more informal gathering of up to 30. Outside, the cobbled yard and Old Midden provide additional spaces to enjoy the views towards Low Fell.
Exclusive use of the venue includes access to the country house and its five luxury en-suite guest rooms. Staying on site allows close family and friends to remain at the heart of the celebrations and enjoy a more relaxed wedding experience.
