The Setting
New House Farm is a historic guest house wedding venue surrounded by scenic views in Lorton Valley, Cumbria.
This stunning property was built in 1650 and has retained many original features, which when combined with elegant modern touches offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for soon to be wed couples. Here you can enjoy the day of your dreams within a beautiful, fairytale setting.
The area has some of the most stunning scenery and views in the country. The view looking towards Crummock Water, with High Stile and Red Pike towering in the distance is spectacular. A walk around Crummock Water or Buttermere Lake reveals some of the best valley views in the Lake District. Scale Force is a spectacular waterfall and can be seen on a pleasant walk from Buttermere village, or as part of a longer walk around Crummock Water.
The Vibe
New House Farm provides a picturesque location for couples to host a heartfelt wedding ceremony.
This ancient barn is suitable for up to 130 guests and has been expertly restored and features original exposed wood beams and traditional touches to enhance the ambience of your special day. For those wishing to host a more intimate celebration, the country house itself can be utilised for ceremonies of up to 20 people.
Afterwards, guests can enjoy a relaxed drinks reception in the open air. The surrounding scenery of this property provides a breathtaking backdrop for wedding photos while your guests sip champagne and mingle. Wedding receptions are held in The Hayloft, an original Lakeland barn which has been restored to the highest standards with traditional materials. Bright and airy with a graceful combination of rustic chic and modern facilities the oak beams are offset by the natural exposed stone walls. The charm of The Hayloft is in its versatility. It can be decorated according to your own personal taste – anything from bunting to drapes, fairy lights to pretty candles.
The Cart Shed, with its fully glazed gable end and uninterrupted views looking towards Buttermere and Haystacks, is the perfect room in which to hold your wedding ceremony or drinks reception. This space has its own bar and features a huge sandstone fireplace where welcoming fires roar on colder days. Together with stunning views and photographic opportunities all year round, it is also ideal for smaller, more intimate weddings.
The Milking Parlour, situated just across the cobbled yard from the main house, can cater for a sit down celebration of up to 16 or an informal gathering of up to 30. A huge fire sits in one corner ready to roar into action on colder days, and on sunny days there can be nothing nicer than to sit outside in the Old Midden, gazing out towards Low Fell and the incredible surrounding views.
