About
Setting

Set within woodland near Wareham in Dorset, Morden Lake is at one with water, trees, and open sky, setting the tone of the experience from the moment you arrive. The lake sits at the centre, drawing the day outdoors, while forest paths and clearings create a natural flow between each part of the celebration.

Morden Lake is presented by the team behind Abbots Court and operates on a limited calendar of just eight weddings per year. This approach ensures each celebration receives focused attention and allows couples to make full use of the setting across their time on site.

Ceremony

Ceremonies take place beside the lake, with seating for up to 120 guests arranged to face the water. The aisle leads you through your guests and out towards the edge, where the view opens up.

A jetty extends into the lake, offering a quiet pause after the ceremony, with a traditional rowing boat ready for photographs or a few minutes together away from the crowd. Drinks can be served nearby, keeping guests gathered by the water. If the weather turns, a stretch tent can be installed to provide cover without losing the outdoor setting.

Reception

From the lakeside, the celebration moves into the woodland, where a treble tipi forms the centre of the reception. Positioned among the trees, it seats up to 120 guests and brings everyone together in one open, sociable space.

Guests move from drinks to dinner without interruption, and as tables are cleared, a built-in dance floor and fully staffed cocktail bar keep the energy building as the light fades.

Outside, the woodland remains part of the experience. The tipi opens onto the surrounding trees, and as evening settles in, the contrast between the warm interior and the darker forest beyond creates a magical change in atmosphere.

Accommodation

The Woodland Cottage offers on-site accommodation for you and your closest family, with three bedrooms and space to stay both before and after the wedding. It is designed for privacy and comfort, giving you room to prepare at your own pace and return at the end of the evening. The cottage extends into its own garden, with a forest hot tub and direct access to the lake.

For additional guests, Almer Manor, the venue’s sister property, provides further accommodation a short drive away, allowing friends and family to stay nearby and share more of the weekend together.

Food & Drink

Couples can work with a selection of trusted catering partners or bring in their own team, allowing the menu to reflect individual tastes and preferences. Options range from relaxed, flame-grilled BBQ feasts to more formal three-course meals, all served within the woodland tipi. The setting lends itself to sociable dining, where guests feel part of the occasion rather than separate from it.

The bar is fully staffed and positioned within the tipi, keeping drinks close to the action throughout the evening. For the reception, couples can opt for a pop-up bar by the lake or the converted Defender Bar, adding a fun focal point as guests gather outdoors after the ceremony.
