About

Setting

Imagine a seven-acre private estate with a historic house set amidst glorious grounds tucked away behind a Medieval gatehouse and surrounded by a romantic moat. Michelham Priory has a stunning Grade I listed Elizabethan Barn with a breathtaking vaulted ceiling and original oak beams perfect for wedding celebrations but also offers use of its House and its formal and informal grounds with orchard, kitchen gardens, cloister and physics garden, formal and informal lawns and wooded areas. Weddings at Michelham are encouraged to enjoy all these aspects to make a unique weekend for couples and their guests.

Ceremony

Michelham Priory has multiple licensed areas of its estate so that you can choose the perfect spot depending on the size and style of your wedding. Choose from the Elizabethan Barn or historic Priors Chamber in the House, or for alfresco ceremonies, the orchard, kitchen garden, and House and Barn Lawns are also licensed. You have as much choice as possible and they have the perfect solution no matter the weather.

Reception

The Grade I Elizabethan Barn at Michelham Priory is an utterly stunning space with high vaulted ceilings complete with original oak beams and fairy lights. One side has floor-to-ceiling glass doors to let in the romantic light and views of the private lawns overlooking the moat.

The space includes a bar, dining tables and chairs, beautiful soft furnishings to create seating areas for your guests, a sound system, pretty outdoor furniture, and six full-size olive trees.

The barn comfortably seats up to 130 guests, with standing room for up to 175, allowing couples to invite extra evening guests. The gravelled courtyard at the front is perfect for food trucks in the evening.

Food & Drink

Michelham Priory works with an extensive list of preferred caterers so that you can shape your wedding breakfast and bar around your style and budget. They also allow food trucks on site, and you can BYO. They don’t charge corkage but can also provide a licensed bar.

Sustainability

The grounds at Michelham Priory are teeming with biodiversity and are in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The grounds team works hard to encourage new and protect existing flora and fauna on the estate and has policies to do this, which they share with their couples. The team encourages all wedding clients to take care of their waste correctly and can make recommendations for limiting the amount of single-use plastic and waste created.
