Lauderdale House is a Grade II* listed Tudor house dating back to 1582, located within Waterlow Park in Highgate, North London. Surrounded by landscaped gardens, terraces and idyllic views across the city, it offers the atmosphere of a country house while remaining close to central London. Its peaceful setting combines historic charm with easy access to local shops, cafés and transport links in Highgate, Archway and Kentish Town.
It is licensed for marriages and civil partnerships and can host ceremonies of up to 120 guests. Ceremonies can take place in the elegant Lower Gallery and Entrance Hall, where Georgian columns, original beams and period features create a romantic backdrop. Smaller ceremonies can also be held in the Long Gallery for a more intimate atmosphere. Following the ceremony, couples can enjoy a confetti moment on the terrace and photographs in the gardens and grounds.
They can host wedding receptions for up to 120 guests. Drinks receptions can take place on the terrace and in the gardens, while wedding breakfasts are usually held in the Lower Gallery and Long Gallery. The Long Gallery is ideal for dining and dancing, with fairy lights and space for a dance floor, while the Lower Gallery offers a characterful setting for more intimate receptions. The venue is suitable for both smaller celebrations and larger weddings, with flexible spaces that can be adapted to different guest numbers and layouts.
Lauderdale House works with Pink Food, its in-house catering partner, to provide food and drink for weddings. Pink Food offers a range of catering options, including canapés, wedding breakfasts, evening food and drinks packages. Menus can be tailored to suit different celebration styles, from formal dining to relaxed sharing menus, and can accommodate a range of dietary requirements.
London Underground stations nearby include Archway on the Northern line, around a 10-minute walk away, and Highgate, around 15 minutes away. Kentish Town Station is approximately 10 minutes away by taxi. Local bus routes also stop close to the entrance to Waterlow Park.
There are not enough words to thank you both and your whole crew for making our wedding day the most incredible day we have ever experienced. We are so grateful for all your hard work and support in making it truly unforgettable. Thank you. We could not have had a better venue and catering! (The food was delicious!)
Married November 2025
Everything ran so smoothly on the day. The work and care of Etta and the other staff on the 28th immediately put our guests and us at ease and enabled a fantastically warm, relaxed and joyful atmosphere, which lasted throughout the day (and beyond actually). Our dealings with Lauderdale and, in particular, with Kim and Helen were a delight from the off, and the relaxed communication between us, which enabled things to get done without pressure, was hugely appreciated and very inspirational in today’s business world. We can’t thank you enough, we couldn’t have been happier!

Lauderdale House is situated in Waterlow Park, which is a public park owned by Camden Council. Like other park users, your guests are free to be anywhere in the park until it closes at dusk. While there is no private use of any areas, we have always found other visitors very respectful. When the Park closes at dusk, you and your guests may continue to use the side terrace by the French windows and the Tea Lawn at the back of the house.
As a Grade II* listed venue, we do not permit anything to be attached to the walls, so it is best to plan your decoration around free-standing or table-top pieces, such as flower arrangements. We do, however, have a series of hooks discreetly placed along the ceiling that can be used for bunting or fairy lights. You can also bring battery-powered fairy lights to decorate the railings along the side terrace. No naked flames are permitted in or around the building, but battery-powered LED candles are, of course, welcome.
We have the following kit available for your wedding: a projector with HDMI and Mac cables, a projector screen, large floor easels, a lectern, and a small PA system with a microphone, which can be used for ceremonies and speeches.
Please note our PA is not suitable for evening party music. Any other lighting/audio equipment will need to be hired in. Please liaise with the Events team to ensure you have booked sufficient set-up time and/or space and to verify that it is suitable for our heritage building before hiring in equipment.
Your stewards will be your contacts for the building. For all matters related to catering, Pink Food will designate a 'Manager on Duty' who will coordinate the rest of their on-site team. All staff will be briefed, as we use a system to maintain notes about your booking, and will be happy to help where they can.
We want to make sure that all your most important guests can attend your wedding, so we are happy to provisionally hold your preferred date for up to 2 weeks without a deposit.
We do not have any on-site parking. There is one Blue Badge parking spot just in front of the building. Highgate Hill (the road directly outside the house) and several other roads in the immediate area have on-street parking which is free all day on Saturdays and Sundays and from midday on weekdays. Pay and display is in operation outside these times in some areas. Please always check the signage before parking your vehicle.
If you would prefer not to use our in-house furniture, you are more than welcome to hire furniture in. All we request is that you liaise with us regarding dropping off and collecting, as we do not have any storage space for additional furniture.
Having hosted all sorts of events for over 40 years, we know many local suppliers and are happy to recommend them. Please contact our Events team for our recommended suppliers list.
We are a proud arts venue and love celebrating local artists in the house. We have three exhibition spaces that we use to host temporary exhibitions year-round, each lasting 4 weeks. If you feel the artwork would be an issue, we can arrange to have it removed for your event at an additional cost. We will require at least three weeks' notice to arrange this for you.
