Hutton Wandesley Stables & Walled Garden sits within the Vale of York, surrounded by 3,000 acres of open countryside, yet only a short drive from the city itself. The venue unfolds across a thoughtfully restored Victorian stable block, formal gardens, and expansive lawns, all enclosed by the historic 2.5-acre walled garden.
Here, space is both generous and contained. Long views across farmland meet more intimate garden rooms, from perennial meadow planting to structured terraces and working greenhouse spaces. The setting feels private, designed to host a full wedding day without interruption. With 3-day exclusive use as standard, couples and guests can settle in, move freely between spaces, and treat the estate as their own for the duration of the celebration.
Civil ceremonies at Hutton Wandesley are fully flexible, with the entire venue and gardens licensed for weddings. Couples can choose from multiple outdoor locations within the walled garden, including the lawn, rose arbour, cutting garden, garden terrace, greenhouse and Garden Glasshouse Barn.
Smaller weddings of up to 60 guests can take place in the greenhouse, while larger gatherings can be held outdoors or in covered garden structures.
For church ceremonies, All Saints Long Marston Church sits just a few minutes’ walk from the venue and seats up to 160 guests, offering a traditional option close by before returning to the gardens for the reception.
The reception experience is designed to flow across the gardens before moving into Botanicum, the venue’s contemporary event barn. Drinks receptions often begin in the walled garden, with guests gathering around the Garden Glasshouse Barn, the greenhouse, or the lawn. Stretch tents are often set up alongside the barn for added shelter and scale, particularly when ceremonies are held nearby.
Botanicum seats up to 120 guests for the wedding breakfast on either round or trestle tables, with space for up to 160 evening guests. The barn includes a fixed bar, catering facilities and internal WC provision, making it a practical and polished setting for dinner and dancing. For larger celebrations, marquees, stretch tents or tipis can be added within the garden to host up to 200 guests in total.
Every wedding at Hutton Wandesley includes a dedicated wedding coordinator, available throughout the planning process to help couples shape the day in line with the venue’s layout and capabilities.
On-site accommodation is an integral part of the venue. The converted Victorian Stableblock offers nine ensuite bedrooms sleeping 18 guests, alongside generous shared living space designed for relaxed group stays. Adjacent to the stables sits Laundry Cottage, a two-bedroom ensuite wedding cottage reserved for the wedding party.
Laundry Cottage provides a calm, private setting for getting ready, with its own kitchen, sitting room and dedicated space for hair and make-up teams. In total, the venue accommodates 22 guests on-site. Additional accommodation for 28 guests is available on the wider estate, with complimentary transport to and from these lodgings, allowing guests to stay close without compromising the intimacy of the main venue.
Catering at Hutton Wandesley is arranged through a trusted list of recommended suppliers, chosen for their quality and range of styles. Options span fine dining, generous sharing menus, and fire-led cooking, allowing couples to tailor a menu to suit both the setting and the season.
The bar is run by Fusion Barn Events, the in-house bar team, who work closely with couples to create tailored drinks menus. From welcome drinks through to the evening service, the bar offering is designed to feel considered and responsive, with flexibility for personal requests.
Sustainability underpins the venue’s approach to both buildings and grounds. Heating across the site is provided by ground source systems, supported by solar panels, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
The gardens are managed organically, with planting designed to support long-term health and biodiversity within the estate. This practical, considered approach extends across day-to-day operations, ensuring the venue remains both productive and well-maintained without compromising the guest experience. Sustainability here is built into how the venue runs, rather than added as an afterthought.
Located in the heart of the Vale of York, Hutton Wandesley offers the feel of a countryside stay with the convenience of easy access to the city. York lies just seven miles away, while Harrogate is 15 miles and Leeds is 17 miles from the venue.
