Holesfoot offers a blissfully secluded atmosphere filled with luxuries that make it feel like a home away from home. Wild and whimsical beauty surrounds every corner of the estate, providing countless options for stunning photo opportunities and setups.
The venue has 20 acres of private grounds, featuring formal and informal gardens, a lake, woodland, and picturesque meadows. It’s in the magnificent Eden Valley countryside, between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.
The Italian Garden Terrace is a popular choice for ceremonies, offering a stunning, romantic atmosphere. Guests can walk through arches of roses, sweet peas, and honeysuckle along an aisle bordered by water lilies and enjoy the enchanting views of wisteria creeping up walls.
For winter weddings, The Barn provides an equally magical setting. On rainy days, couples can say their vows under the canopy of The Walled Garden, with the soothing sound of raindrops above.
Holesfoot offers various reception options, whether it’s enjoying drinks, music, and canapés on the front lawn overlooking the pond or in the charming walled garden. If the weather isn’t ideal, the beautifully renovated Grade II* listed manor house provides a warm and elegant setting, with cosy undercroft areas and a welcoming bar.
There’s plenty of space for outdoor activities like garden games, rounders, archery, and even axe-throwing, as well as unique photo opportunities around the pond or in a quaint rowing boat.
There are also multiple ways to enjoy your wedding preparations the day before at Holesfoot, from mobile spa treatments in the bridal suite to Prosecco in the hot tub with friends. Whether hosting a poker night or a fine dining dinner party, Holesfoot provides flexibility for any pre-wedding activities.
The venue provides on-site accommodation for up to 60 guests, including the spectacular Manor House, the cosy Bakehouse, the Coach House, the Cottage, and Glamping options. All have been newly renovated to the highest standards, ensuring an unforgettable stay for every guest at Holesfoot.
From 2026 onwards, Holesfoot requires the use of its in-house caterers, Foray Catering, known for their exceptional quality. The team accommodates various options, including food trucks or mobile catering that doesn’t require the venue’s facilities. For wedding planning assistance, contact Foray Catering directly.
Holesfoot takes great pride in its sustainability efforts. The estate is heated using renewable, BSL-rated wood chips, and future plans include growing its own flowers, microgreens, and vegetables for the catering team. More chickens will also be added to provide fresh eggs for guests’ breakfasts.
Holesfoot is located near the village of Maulds Meaburn, described as one of the most beautiful villages in the country. The area offers many leisure activities, from grouse shooting on the Pennines to sailing on Ullswater.
It is easily accessible via the M6 motorway and the West Coast mainline railway at Penrith, which provides direct trains to London.
Where to start? My now wife and I first came across Holesfoot in the summer of 2022 when looking for our dream wedding venue. We were so taken with what we saw online we wanted to book then and there but we drove the 300+ miles to view and meet with Liv. We fell in love with the place the moment we came up the driveway, and it just got better. Liv has exceptional taste and has created the most exceptional estate, perfect for a wedding. The house has the perfect balance of character and modern high-spec finishes, and there is a choice of the most beautiful spots to marry. We chose the Italian Garden and had the wedding breakfast/evening reception in the equally stunning barn.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for Liv or her team; they all worked with a huge smile. You can tell they’re all proud to be associated with Holesfoot, and rightly so. We had the most incredible weekend celebrating, and the setting blew away all our guests. The nature of the venue means you can choose all your own finishes and create something totally bespoke.
If you’re considering getting married in the Lakes/Dales, you cannot look any further than Holesfoot.

Where to begin with how utterly amazing Liv, James & Holesfoot are!!
After losing our original venue during covid, lots of money and being faced with potentially having to cancel our upcoming wedding, one evening in distress I stumbled across Holesfoot and got butterflies in my stomach and instantly fell in love. I sent a message to Liv to see if we could meet up and chat all things weddings.
Instantly I felt at ease with Liv and James, they were so kind, welcoming and you could see how much love they had for Holesfoot, it shone through. We were taken on a tour around the grounds, the house and the barn and it was just beautiful. At the time it was just over a year until our proposed date and the house was being renovated, which Liv and James were very upfront and honest about. We knew exactly where we stood which was really reassuring. Their visions are insane and literally everything they dream of doing is done with absolute perfection. Never once were promises made that were not realistic or unachievable. They were so excited to host our wedding and loved our ideas which was just so heart-warming and really put us at ease. Liv agreed our date instantly and we went through everything proposed and the work began from there. My husband and I didn’t even make it to the end of the drive and we shouted in excitement that holesfoot was THE ONE, we were so happy!
Throughout all of the planning Liv couldn’t have been any more helpful, kind and reassuring, it was so difficult for us both with not only the renovation work but Covid restrictions that continuously changed. Absolutely everything that Liv and James said would be done was done and with so much thought and class, they really went above and beyond and mucked in to everything, from sanding floors to cleaning beams, the effort put in was second to none, they worked so so hard to have everything ready in such a short space of time. They worked so hard to allow us to have the most amazing day that we could.
We spent the weekend at Holesfoot with our family and it was amazing, we couldn’t recommend doing that more. It is very rare to find a venue where we didn’t feel like a conveyer belt. We decided to decorate our wedding very minimally as we loved the natural and original features already in the house and the barn and wanted that to be prominent. Liv and James were extremely generous in allow us to decorate everything exactly as we wanted with no restrictions this was a huge selling point to us. We also loved how welcoming Liv and James were with our dog Tilly. She very much made herself at home in Holesfoot each time we visited and loved playing with flack and brig and she even got to share our wedding weekend with us which was just perfect.
I arrived with my family and bridesmaids on the Thursday to finish of the last bits of the set up. We spent the rest of the time exploring holesfoot, playing croquet on the lawn, having drinks and just soaking it all in. We had a very warm welcome. we had both the main house and the bakehouse, were welcomed with fresh eggs from the hens and a super clean and super cosy home. Liv and James were so welcoming and were on hand for absolutely anything we needed; nothing was too much trouble.
On the day of the wedding the rest of our guests arrived, they couldn’t stop commenting on how amazing holesfoot was and couldn’t believe what a gem we had stumbled across. Liv and James were just amazing on the day along with their lovely team. They had absolutely everything covered through the day and the whole day went without a glitch. Liv was on hand to direct everything and knew the order of events by heart; we can’t thank them enough. they were just amazing! They worked so well with all our suppliers too and it went so smoothly.
We had the most amazing wedding day and it is honestly down to the generosity of them both.
Words are hard to find to describe how good this place is!
My wife and I got married at Holesfoot in August 2024, and from start to finish, our experience was amazing. Liv made it so easy. She offered help and advice at every turn, from recommended suppliers to the timing of the day. The attention to detail in every bit of the accommodation was outstanding! It was very clean and well-kept. The gardens are beautiful and well-maintained. The staff are professional and funny, and they all go above and beyond to make your stay special. While planning our wedding, we even stayed the night with our dog in the ‘bakehouse’. It was so helpful in planning and imagining our big day. The whole estate was private throughout our stay. It’s so peaceful. My family and friends are still talking about it now! We made so many happy memories. It was perfect. We will be going back many times to visit. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
Married August 2024
Wow! We married at Holesfoot at the end of July and honestly had the best weekend of our lives.
Holesfoot has so many amazing spaces within the grounds and buildings, and we really made the most of them by using as many of them as possible over the weekend. Having exclusive use of the venue is such a bonus —it really makes the place feel like your own.
The house, cottages, barn, and bell tents are all finished to a high standard and equipped with everything we needed. The attention to detail is second to none. Our on-site guests loved their rooms and didn’t want to leave. The gardens are full of beautiful flowers, and best of all…the freshwater pond is an amazing hangover cure!
Liv was amazing and was so flexible both in the lead up and during the weekend, we felt like the world was our oyster and that Liv was genuinely excited to help make our ideas come to life. The staff at Holesfoot are also fantastic – so helpful and fun and all of our guests commented on their fab service.
If you’re looking for an exclusive venue with beautiful places around every corner and a fun and flexible approach that allows you to create your own wedding weekend whilst staying in relaxed luxury – this is the place for you! You won’t regret it.
Married July 2023
We are lucky to have no nearby neighbours, making Holesfoot the perfect place to keep partying with your own music even after your band / DJ may have said goodnight!
Tables, chairs, and decorations will not be provided. However, there are plenty of plug sockets and hanging spots, so you can dress the barn however you like.
Our outside furniture consists of two ten-man teak tables and 20 chairs. We will also have some iron benches and some whiskey barrels as tables. You can play around with these and move them wherever you like. Trestle tables are handy for outside! We have 10 for catering use, and you are welcome to use any leftover. We also have a large cable reel drum for a rustic table (nice to display the cake or a reception drinks station, for example). The bar area will have its own furniture, including bar stools, chairs/sofas, and drinks tables. You are welcome to dress the bar if you wish.
Our team will be on hand to assist with the following:
- Managing the bar, collecting glasses, and moving chairs, tables, and props during ceremony, reception, dinner, and evening transitions.
- Handling parking management and security.
- Greeting the registrars or the celebrant.
- Ensuring the main house is fresh for your arrival.
- Preparing the bridal suite (sofa bed, if needed) and tidying up the kitchen and general downstairs area.
- Serving welcome drinks if not included in the caterer's package.
Important Recommendations:
If your budget allows, we suggest hiring a wedding planner or coordinator. While someone from our team will always be onsite to oversee and assist, we are not qualified coordinators.
- The caterers are responsible for managing the timing and service of the food.
- If you don’t have a professional coordinator, it’s a good idea to assign tasks to ushers, the best man, or bridesmaids (e.g., gathering guests or acting as an MC), especially with large groups.
Please send us a copy of your event schedule and timings so we can assist you as much as possible!
The Barn Main Hall and bar are fully wheelchair accessible. There is an accessible WC conveniently located through the cloakroom. One of our stable conversions will be a fully disabled-friendly ensuite bedroom with a small kitchenette. Unfortunately, the main house is a bit tricky with wheelchair access, as there are about three steps to get to the ground floor of the house. Couples can always come and see, and then you can decide whether it will work for you and your guests.
