Gifted to a Knight of the Realm 600 years ago, Hampton Castle sits within rolling Herefordshire countryside near the Welsh border. Its gardens and grounds have been shaped by Humphry Repton and George London and painted by Turner.
The arrival sets the scene: through the gatehouse, along a 200-metre tree-lined drive towards the castle and beneath the original 600-year-old drawthrough entrance. For two days, the castle is exclusively yours, with no other weddings taking place.
Ceremonies can take place inside the castle or outdoors in the Central Courtyard. Here, topiary trees frame a central aisle leading towards the drawthrough, with views back along the drive.
Inside, the 600-year-old Chapel offers a more intimate setting, with traditional pews, ornate stained glass and a beautifully painted ceiling.
After the ceremony, drinks can be served in the Library, complete with its own secret door and steps leading down to the lawns and countryside beyond.
The Ballroom was created for parties, with floor-to-ceiling corner mirrors, chandeliers, a decorative ceiling and tall windows that catch the early evening light. It seats up to 120 guests for dinner, with space for a further 50 evening guests.
The castle has 25 bedrooms, reserved exclusively for you and your guests. Many feature roll-top baths and four-poster beds, with views across the gardens, courtyards and surrounding countryside. An accessible ensuite bedroom is available on the ground floor.
The night before the wedding, the Arkwright Wing provides its own place to gather, with a bar housed in one of Herefordshire’s oldest brew houses, alongside a dining room and games room. The following morning, breakfast is served in the castle’s formal Dining Room.
Hampton Castle works exclusively with a trusted local independent caterer, preparing dishes from scratch and creating menus in collaboration with the castle team. Glassware, tableware, white linen, tables and chairs are all included, keeping the practical details straightforward.
Hampton Castle is in Hope-under-Dinmore, Herefordshire, close to the Welsh border.
We have 25 bedrooms that can sleep up to 54 guests. This includes an accessible downstairs room and the Honeymoon Suite.
We don't allow external caterers, as we are fortunate to have our own caterers, who deliver exceptional food throughout your time with us. This includes a wide range of choices to suit a variety of tastes and dietary requirements.
Access to the castle is at 4pm for the couple the day before the wedding, and at 5pm for overnight guests staying in the castle.
No, every wedding at Hampton is a two-day celebration. With the whole castle and grounds to yourselves, there's far more to enjoy than a single afternoon allows, and two days give everyone time to settle in, explore, and properly be together before and after the day itself.
No, we have fully stocked bars and cover all alcohol arrangements throughout your stay with us.
We have found that the best way to enjoy the castle is to work with our fabulous suppliers and make the most of what we can offer. As a result, we can't offer dry hire.
The ceremony and wedding breakfast can accommodate up to 120 guests, with space for an additional 50 evening-only guests.
