About
Setting

Once a working Victorian pump house, the building has been carefully restored, with its industrial heritage still very much at the heart of the experience. Exposed brick walls, soaring ceilings and original architectural features create a setting with real presence, softened by considered interiors.

Surrounded by peaceful scenery, Dalton Old Pump House offers a sense of privacy without feeling remote. The grounds provide relaxed spaces to step outside between celebrations, while the surrounding landscape creates natural backdrops for photography. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a larger celebration, the venue offers a setting that feels characterful and refreshingly different.

Ceremony

At the centre of the venue is the Pump Room, an extraordinary ceremony space where the original Victorian beam engine still stands proudly. It creates a backdrop unlike any other, giving every ceremony an unmistakable sense of occasion while celebrating the building’s industrial past.

The Pump Room welcomes up to 140 guests beneath soaring ceilings, with four statement chandeliers that bring warmth to the exposed-brick interior. Dark herringbone flooring and underfloor heating ensure the space feels comfortable and inviting all year round, while its clean, understated styling allows your own flowers and décor to take centre stage.

For warmer months, ceremonies can also take place outside on the patio. It offers a relaxed alternative, surrounded by fresh air and natural light, with the Pump Room always available as an elegant indoor option should plans change.

Reception

After the ceremony, celebrations continue in the impressive Boiler Room, a 4,000-square-foot reception space where the venue’s industrial architecture takes on a completely different atmosphere. Original brickwork provides character throughout, while 48 chandeliers transform the room from a bright wedding breakfast setting into an atmospheric evening celebration.

A grand staircase creates a memorable entrance for newlyweds and doubles as a striking backdrop for photographs before guests take their seats. The generous proportions of the room comfortably accommodate larger celebrations, while remaining flexible enough to reflect different styles, from formal dining to more relaxed celebrations.

Couples planning a more intimate day can choose to host their reception in the Pump Room, where the historic beam engine, elegant lighting, and welcoming atmosphere lend themselves beautifully to relaxed dining or afternoon tea.

Accommodation

Dalton Old Pump House doesn’t offer on-site accommodation.

A wide selection of nearby hotels means everyone can stay where they feel most comfortable, from luxury stays to more affordable options. The venue works closely with Ramside Hall, where couples and guests receive 20% off their first night’s stay and 10% off additional nights using a dedicated booking code. Each wedding is also supported by an account manager to make arranging guest accommodation straightforward.

With its spa, golf course, restaurants and leisure facilities, Ramside Hall is particularly well suited to guests making a weekend of the celebrations.

Food & Drink

Food is prepared entirely in-house by Dalton Old Pump House’s dedicated wedding team, led by its full-time chef. Every menu is made from scratch, giving couples the opportunity to enjoy freshly prepared dishes created with care and attention to detail throughout the day.

The same approach applies to the venue’s signature naked wedding cakes, which are baked on-site for each celebration. Rather than relying on outside suppliers, every cake is made in-house, adding another thoughtful detail to the day.

The bar is equally generous, offering a wide selection of wines, spirits, beers, cocktails and soft drinks alongside an extensive range of alcohol-free options. Whether guests are raising a glass of champagne, enjoying a carefully mixed cocktail or choosing a 0% alternative, there’s plenty of choice for everyone.

Sustainability

Sustainability is part of the venue’s everyday approach. Wherever possible, produce is sourced from local suppliers, supporting regional businesses while reducing food miles and allowing the kitchen to work with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Every menu is prepared from scratch in-house, helping reduce unnecessary packaging while maintaining complete oversight of quality and provenance. Looking ahead, the venue continues to expand its gardens, with plans to grow herbs, vegetables and salads for use within its menus. As these growing spaces develop, more ingredients will travel directly from garden to kitchen, reflecting a practical commitment to thoughtful sourcing and homemade cooking.

Local Area

Situated just off the A19, Dalton Old Pump House is well placed for guests wishing to explore the North East before or after the celebrations. Historic Durham is only a short drive away, offering its cathedral, riverside walks, independent shops and welcoming cafés.

To the east, Sunderland provides beaches, coastal walks and a lively city atmosphere, while Newcastle offers excellent shopping, restaurants, galleries and nightlife. Between these larger destinations are market towns and traditional villages, giving guests plenty of opportunities to discover more of the region during a wedding weekend.
