There is nowhere else in the world where you can exchange vows beneath the gleaming hull of a ship.
Cutty Sark, the fastest sailing ship of her age, now rests in permanent dry dock at Greenwich – a London icon reimagined as a breathtaking riverside venue.
Suspended more than three metres above the ground, the ship’s copper-clad hull glows above the glass-covered Dry Berth, creating a dramatic, light-filled space that shifts beautifully from day to evening. With sweeping river views, remarkable architecture, and an unmatched sense of history, this is a setting that stirs the imagination and celebrates the spirit of adventure.
Couples can hold their ceremony aboard the ship itself – an unforgettable experience steeped in maritime heritage.
The ‘Tween Deck, where precious cargo was once carried, can host up to 60 guests for intimate ceremonies. For larger celebrations, the Dry Berth below offers space for up to 300 guests, framed by the ship’s extraordinary hull above.
From the Weather Deck, guests can enjoy panoramic views across the Thames and Canary Wharf skyline, a unique vantage point for toasts and photographs.
After the ceremony, celebrations continue below deck. The Dry Berth forms the heart of the event – a vast, atmospheric space accommodating up to 250 guests for dinner and dancing, or 400 for standing receptions.
A glass canopy bathes the area in soft natural light, while the curved hull above creates a sense of grandeur and intimacy. Guests can explore the ship on arrival, enjoy drinks on the Weather Deck overlooking the Thames, and then descend for dinner and dancing beneath one of Britain’s most remarkable historic landmarks.
Evening extensions until 1am are available on request, allowing your celebration to unfold at its own pace.
As a Grade I listed ship and museum, Cutty Sark does not offer on-site accommodation. However, the team works closely with trusted local hotels and can recommend nearby stays to suit every style and budget – all within walking distance of the venue.
Cutty Sark partners exclusively with accredited suppliers for catering, floristry, and event production. Couples can choose from curated menus designed to reflect their personal tastes and style – from relaxed feasts to elegant plated dining.
Menus, décor, and lighting can all be tailored to fit your vision, with an experienced events team ensuring seamless coordination throughout. The venue’s reputation for exceptional service and food quality ensures every detail is as impressive as the setting itself.
Cutty Sark and Royal Museums Greenwich are committed to sustainable event practices. The venue works to minimise waste, conserve energy, and protect the heritage environment in line with its Environmental Sustainability Policy.
Located in Greenwich, one of London’s most beautiful historic districts, Cutty Sark sits among world-famous landmarks including the Royal Observatory, Queen’s House, and the National Maritime Museum.
Guests can explore Greenwich’s riverside charm, markets, and green spaces, all while enjoying skyline views that stretch from the park to Canary Wharf – a fusion of old-world romance and modern London energy.
Cutty Sark is well connected by public transport, river, and rail. Guests can arrive in style via the Greenwich Maritime Pier or by DLR and mainline services from Canary Wharf and London Bridge.
Nearby stations include Greenwich, Maze Hill, and Island Gardens.
We believe that accessibility should be regarded as continual work in progress. As a collection of historical buildings, we have worked to ensure accessibility across our sites. We are pleased to say that currently, Cutty Sark is wheelchair accessible. For further access requirements, kindly contact us, and we will be very happy to discuss with you in more detail.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve accessibility across our museums, and we welcome any feedback you may have. Please reach out to events@rmg.co.uk or call us on 0208 312 8517.
Provisional dates can be held on confirmation of a site visit, without commitment, for two weeks. Couples will always be given notice and an opportunity to confirm before a provisionally held date is released. Once couples have notified us that they would like to book an event, a contract is issued, which must be returned within 7 days along with a deposit invoice.
Due to the sensitive nature of our buildings and collections, only our approved catering, floristry, and production suppliers are permitted. We work with handpicked, approved suppliers who you can contact for more information. We've worked hard to ensure there is a good selection of suppliers to accommodate each client's specific needs and price points. Working closely with these suppliers, we are more than happy to make specific recommendations that we think will work well for your event.
Due to the historic floors and collections, you will need to consider the following:
- We allow light coloured drink service only during standing receptions aboard Cutty Sark
- Lilies and flowers with staining stamens are permitted only with stamens removed.
- Our venue has outdoor space permitted for smoking; however, indoor smoking, naked flames, candles, confetti, balloons, and dry ice are not allowed.
- We kindly ask guests not to wear stiletto heels aboard Cutty Sark. Any guests who do will be given a heel protector upon arrival.
Unfortunately, there is no parking available on site; however, there are local car parks, and we are just a few minutes walk from Cutty Sark DLR and Greenwich mainline train. Access is also available on Thames riverboat services.
