About
Setting

Cowdray House, located at the heart of the 16,000-acre Cowdray Estate in West Sussex, is surrounded by beautiful, manicured gardens and the rolling hills of the South Downs. At Cowdray House, timeless elegance blends with the gentle warmth of a former family home to create a peaceful, romantic wedding setting unlike any other.

Whether you are looking to host an intimate gathering for 15 guests or a larger reception for up to 150, with 22 luxurious bedrooms and opulent reception rooms, your wedding day, weekend, or week-long stay will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

Ceremony

When it comes to the ceremony itself, whether you’re dreaming of something more intimate held outside in the beautiful gardens or a larger affair inside the grand interiors of the house, Cowdray House has numerous possibilities.

Choose from Buck Hall, which is situated at the heart of the house and has a vaulted ceiling, arched minstrels’ gallery, and a splendid fireplace that takes centre stage, to the wood-panelled Dining Room, or even the outdoor Summer Pavilion overlooking the manicured lawns, perfect for the warmer months. All of these areas are licensed for civil ceremonies.

The dedicated team are experienced in creating and running prestigious, bespoke events and will be on hand, along with esteemed suppliers, to bring your ceremony vision to life.

Reception

Cowdray House is an exclusive-use wedding venue, which in turn means that all rooms and spaces can be transformed to suit your perfect day.

Whether you’ve chosen to have your ceremony in Buck Hall, underneath the beautiful, vaulted ceiling, or in the Summer Pavilion, the drinks reception can be held outside on the manicured croquet lawn or in two of the elegant reception rooms – the Library and Drawing Room – which open onto the front terrace. Here, your guests can enjoy a refreshing glass of fizz whilst gazing out onto the gardens and enjoying the view of the South Downs in the distance.

Once the reception drinks have been enjoyed and the gardens used for photographs, guests can move into Buck Hall for the wedding breakfast. Located at the heart of the house, this is a magnificent setting to host dinner and speeches, seating up to 150 guests and providing a stunning backdrop to enjoy celebrating with your loved ones. Alternatively, there is ample space in the grounds around Cowdray House to stage a marquee if you so wish.

As night falls, dance the night away with live music and dancing in the Dining Room, where you and your guests can celebrate until the early hours.

Thank you so much! We had the best wedding ever, I can’t thank you all enough!

A massive thank you to you and the whole Cowdray team for your amazing support yesterday and in the run up. You guys really did make the difference in elevating proceedings to an exceptional level, all the guests staying at the house noted this too. Really appreciate you making our special day so incredible and Cowdray will be a memory we enjoy forever.

April 2022

Andrew & Sheila

Words can’t quite express the gratitude we have for the entire team at Cowdray.

The COVID rules meant we could no longer host our 15-person wedding reception at home, and we benefitted from a last minute COVID cancellation at Cowdray. Guy and his team made the wedding of our dreams come together in just five weeks. The house and grounds are unbelievably beautiful with multiple Christmas trees and roaring fires in every room creating the perfect backdrop for a festive winter wedding. Jo took care of every little detail over the weekend and enabled us to have an incredible stay while feeling completely safe in these crazy times.

We’re already trying to find an excuse to rent the house again!

Just a quick message to say what a wonderful day we had on Saturday. We couldn’t have asked for more. We were so pleased we could get married in such a beautiful setting and the weather was kind to us too. Your staff were absolutely amazing, they couldn’t do enough for us and worked really hard to make our day go exactly as we wanted it to. I was bowling in my wedding dress at 2am!! A really wonderful day. Please pass on our thanks to all the staff, we were genuinely very sad when it was all over but have some wonderful memories.

A huge thank you for making our day at Cowdray so perfect. We felt incredibly well looked after from the very beginning which made the whole process so relaxing and enjoyable – two things I was worried don’t normally happen at your own wedding. Cowdray House truly was a spectacular venue one which will forever be treated in our memories. Thank you for everything you all made it so perfect.

We could not have asked for more than the service you and your staff provided, and it goes without saying that you were all such a massive part of making our day so special and run so smoothly. Our guests – especially our parents – could not stop singing Cowdray’s praises. Thank you so much again. We’re so glad we chose Cowdray to host our wedding!

Alison & Luke

I just couldn’t wait any longer to get in touch and say the biggest thank you to you both, and all of the Cowdray Team, for everything you did to make sure James and I had the wedding of our dreams and then some!

We really cannot fault you, from the moment I spoke to you on the phone, Amber, to all your help and patience the day before, Sam, we just don’t know how to thank you enough. So, I’m starting with this message as we’re off on our mini-moon today, but I promise I will be back in touch with a proper thank you ASAP on our return.

In the meantime, please do share our thanks and gratuity to the wider team for all their hard work too. thank you again for everything, you’re both some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met and I just feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to plan my wedding with you.
