The 20 acres of glorious landscaped gardens at Coombe Lodge are ever changing. In spring, carpets of primroses, daffodils, bluebells and wild orchids cover the grassy banks and wooded shade. While summer sees the rhododendrons ablaze with colour, and mellow autumn spreads throughout the imposing trees in hues of gold. In winter, you are welcomed on your approach by warmly lit leaded light windows, revealing the flickering of candles and the soft glow from the log fires burning, luring you in to celebrate and relax in the cosy sumptuous interiors.
With a combination of grand vistas, tree lined lined pathways, secret gardens and a dazzling array of flowers, shrubs and mature trees, the grounds create an unexpected oasis of calm and beauty overlooking the Chew Valley. As you take the long sweeping drive that leads up to Coombe Lodge, you know you are somewhere special, somewhere that could be exclusively yours for your celebration or event. The combination of the grand family home, secluded gardens and breath-taking views across the Chew Valley are simply captivating.
Designed by the architect Sir George Oatley, Coombe Lodge was originally built between 1928 and 1932, and became home to the notable Wills family for the next 30 years. While retaining the splendour and elegance of its past – the house has been sensitively transformed into a beautiful, contemporary venue, with striking atmospheric lighting and original floors.
Coombe Lodge will always be exclusive to you. When you and your guests step into the intimate reception hall, you’ll find an open fire lighting the room with a warm amber glow, reflecting off chandeliers onto elegant limed oak panelling. As you pass down the glass-sided gallery, you catch sight of the peacock-fanned archways framing a picturesque view of the garden. From here you enter the bright and airy music room, and take in the panoramic views across Blagdon Lake to the Bristol Channel. The Music room is certainly impressive and an ideal reception area for wining, dining and watching the setting sun.
Whether you have 50 or 160 guests, there is a great choice of locations in which to hold your wedding ceremony. Including the Billiard Room, the Music Room or outside in the courtyard under the charming veranda – so come rain or shine there is always the perfect option.
Why not enjoy Celebratory drinks in the beautiful wood-panelled lounge and gallery, where guests can enjoy the open fire and grand piano. In fine weather make the most of the grand balcony with impressive panoramic views, or relax with your guests in the intimate garden courtyard.
Their cosy library offers the perfect location for some Tea & Coffee or post wedding breakfast cocktails, time to relax with your guests, and maybe enjoy a game of chess! Not far from the dance floor, guests can buy themselves a drink from the well stocked bar. They also offer their couple’s the choice to serve tailored cocktails, which they can create and their team serve to their guests.
There are 12 luxurious bedrooms available to your closest friends and family to stay overnight. The 12 rooms have been individually styled to retain their original features, while providing a befitting degree of comfort and elegance. Three of the rooms have the original, unique, art deco influenced bathrooms, which have been lovingly restored, while the other nine rooms feature large wet-rooms with walk-in showers, some featuring freestanding baths in the room. At the end of the evening, their panelled landing area is a welcoming space to relax, request some final drinks*, then reflect on an amazing day.
The Garden House, a B&B onsite at Coombe Lodge, also offers an additional 10 double bedrooms exclusive to guests.
In the morning a private breakfast room awaits, offering a traditional, and locally sourced choice of cooked breakfasts complemented by a selection of fine pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurt and premium cereals.
