About
Setting

Compton Verney brings together art, architecture and open countryside in a way that feels both grounded and imaginative. A former stately home with a classical redesign, it sits within 120 acres shaped by Capability Brown, where meadows, lawns and wooded pockets create a strong sense of scale and openness. Today, the house and grounds operate as an award-winning gallery and sculpture park, balancing historic form with a contemporary cultural life.

The setting suits weddings that value atmosphere as much as setting. From quiet, intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, Compton Verney offers a setting where classical proportions and modern creativity sit comfortably side by side.

Ceremony

Compton Verney offers a choice of distinctive ceremony settings:

The Chapel

A short walk from the mansion house, a beautifully restored private Chapel provides a timeless, romantic setting for your ceremony. Intricate plaster and marblework adorn the walls and ceiling, and large windows fill the space with natural light.

The Galleries

For a ceremony that feels utterly unique, exchange your vows amidst their world-class collection of artworks. Let the 17th-18th-century Neapolitan masterpieces transport you to the Italian coast, or choose the evocative setting of the Women’s Library, steeped in cultural and feminist history. These extraordinary spaces are ideal for intimate ceremonies.

The Grounds

Outdoors, Compton Verney’s grounds offer a lakeside setting framed by a wildflower meadow and woodland coppice. The original bridge and Capability Brown designed landscape provide a breathtaking natural backdrop, perfect for an unforgettable open-air ceremony.

Reception

After the ceremony, guests can move through the grounds for drinks on the lawn overlooking the lake, or remain indoors for a gallery reception among the artworks. Both options offer a clear sense of place and make the transition from ceremony to celebration feel natural.

The Adam Hall hosts the wedding breakfast, with large picture windows, original marble floors and a muted colour palette that suits both classic and contemporary styling. As evening arrives, the hall transforms into the setting for dancing, with a checkerboard dancefloor providing a clear centre for the night ahead.

Accommodation

There is no on-site accommodation at Compton Verney. Instead, the team works closely with a selection of hotels and guesthouses within a 15-minute drive, offering a range of options for couples and guests. This approach allows guests to stay nearby while keeping the estate focused on the wedding itself, with transport and logistics easy to manage across the weekend.

Food & Drink

Compton Verney partners with a carefully selected group of catering and bar suppliers, allowing couples to shape a menu that suits both the day’s style and their budget. Options range from fine dining to relaxed sharing menus, alongside bespoke cocktails designed for each couple.

Approved partners include:

  • Anthony’s Catering
  • Chana Catering Services
  • Cotswold Fine Dining
  • Shakespeare Kitchen
  • Sip ‘n’ Swig, specialist bar supplier
Local Area

Compton Verney sits in the Warwickshire countryside, with Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Leamington Spa all close by. These historic towns offer accommodation, cultural attractions and places for guests to explore before or after the wedding.

Getting There

The venue is located nine miles east of Stratford-upon-Avon, between Wellesbourne and Kineton, with straightforward access from the M40. Free parking is available on site for wedding guests.

Rail connections are available via Leamington Spa, Warwick Parkway, Stratford-upon-Avon and Banbury, all around a 20-30 minute taxi journey from the estate.

FAQs
What time do we have access to the rooms from and to?

Access to the room can be guaranteed from 9am on the day of the wedding. If the room is available the day before, the team will reach out to you closer to the event date to confirm access and availability. You are welcome to drop off items the day before the wedding, and the team will store and arrange them for you on the day, per your instructions.

The maximum for ceremonies is 100, who does this include?

It is important to note that whilst our maximum capacity for ceremonies is 100, this number must include the couple, two registrars, and a member of staff from Compton Verney, along with any relevant suppliers such as a photographer and musicians.

Will we have exclusive use of Compton Verney?

Compton Verney is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday (and Bank Holiday Mondays) 10am - 5pm. However, the indoor spaces you have booked for your wedding are exclusively yours, and the whole site will be outside of opening hours. As we are closed on Mondays (excluding Bank Holidays) and Tuesdays, we also offer exclusive hire on these days.

May we throw confetti?

Yes - we ask for confetti throws to take place outside only, and for your confetti to be real or dried flower petals only.

Can we have candles?

There are some restrictions on candles; however, they may be used in the Chapel and on our Portico, provided they are in enclosed holders and with advance notice. Candles are not permitted inside the main building. LED candles make a great alternative and provide a romantic atmosphere in the Naples Gallery and Adam Hall.

Can we have fireworks?

Fireworks, sky lanterns, or balloons are not permitted on-site to protect local wildlife.

What are the parking arrangements?

A section of the main car park is reserved for wedding guests upon arrival. Vehicles can be left overnight at Compton Verney for collection by 10am the following morning. We strongly advise pre-booking any taxis you may require. Please be advised that cars are left at the owners' own risk.

When are our payments due?

A deposit of 25% of the agreed venue hire will be charged at the time of booking. The balance is then invoiced 4 months ahead of your wedding and is due for payment 3 months ahead of your wedding.

Do you offer bespoke packages?

Yes - we have a wide range of package options available, from a two-person elopement through to a 150-person party, and we are always happy to discuss and work with you to find the best option to create your dream wedding.

Are dogs allowed?

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the grounds only and may join you for outdoor drinks receptions. We recommend hiring a dog walker or sitter in the event your ceremony or drinks reception needs to move indoors.

Assistance dogs are permitted throughout.
