Chaucer Barn rests on the edge of Gresham, a picturesque village in North Norfolk. It’s situated within a scenic valley designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just a short distance away, the pristine beaches of Holkham and Wells, along with the quaint towns of Sheringham and Cromer, create a landscape rich with seaside charm. The nearby National Trust salt marshes-home to the UK’s largest colony of Grey seals-offer a touch of untamed beauty, while the Georgian town of Holt entices with its boutiques and cafés. Sailing, scenic walks, and year-round birdwatching make this a destination that draws in nature lovers and explorers alike.
Chaucer Barn offers couples a vast array of ceremony locations that are as unique as they are meaningful. With spaces ranging from the cathedral-like grandeur of the main hall to the contemporary style of the pink sitting room, each area can be tailored to reflect your vision. The parkland spans 16 acres and provides an ideal backdrop, from the topiary pyramid forest to the oak-lined avenues. You may exchange vows in a woodland clearing or among wildflowers under a living willow arch.
Chaucer Barn’s reception options are limited only by your imagination. Various lawns await those seeking an open-air celebration, with both intimate and spacious layouts to suit any party size. The flexibility offered allows you to design a reception that perfectly reflects your style and preferences.
Chaucer Barn’s team is available to offer guidance and recommendations for every aspect of your celebration, from planning to preferred suppliers. They provide the freedom to choose your own suppliers while being ready to assist whenever needed, ensuring the planning process is as seamless and enjoyable as the event itself.
The barn’s accommodation offers space and comfort in a warm, communal atmosphere. With nine bedrooms and seven bathrooms, guests are encouraged to settle in for a long weekend or mid-week stay. Five luxurious, self-contained eco-lodges sit within the woods on the edge of the parkland, each with space for up to four guests. Designed with both style and comfort in mind, these lodges feature wood-burning stoves, mood lighting, and views over the parkland and its stone circle, creating a secluded yet homely atmosphere.
The eco-lodges at Chaucer Barn are a testament to its commitment to sustainability. These self-contained lodges combine modern comforts with eco-friendly design. Their positioning within the parkland allows guests to enjoy nature without impacting the surrounding environment, supporting a mindful approach to luxury and relaxation.
Visitors to Chaucer Barn are within a 30-minute drive of the Norfolk Broads, a celebrated network of waterways perfect for exploration. In addition to the Broads, several historic estates nearby-such as Holkham and Blickling-provide a wealth of sights and activities. With scenic views and cultural landmarks, Chaucer Barn’s location ensures both serenity and adventure are close at hand.
From the moment we looked round Chaucer Barn we fell in love with it. We originally wanted our wedding ceremony outside and Chaucer has 3+ areas you can do that. The weather on the day didn’t allow for that but actually we didn’t mind. It felt so special and intimate getting married in the main hall. As I walked along the staircase I could look down at all my guests smiling up.
Despite the weather we still spent time time in the stunning gardens. They are simply beautiful. When your hire Chaucer for a wedding over a weekend you get it from the Friday till the Monday. This meant we could enjoy the day after the wedding rather than rushing out straight away the next day. It was so nice to house over half of our guests. We hired the lodges too which was great.
Tessa, Alan and Cathryn were extremely helpful in the run up to the wedding. They were always on the end of an email or there in person for advice on our set up or when looking round. They had great advice and gave good recommendations for vendors.
We consider ourselves very blessed to have held our September wedding in such a magical place. Grounds and buildings are absolutely beautiful – a very special place indeed. Support and advice from the event colleagues – Tessa, Allan and Cathryn helped to make the whole weekend run very smoothly.
My husband and I got married at Chaucer Barn in July 2019. It is an amazing venue, and just as important it has an absolutely fantastic team behind the scenes that do whatever it takes to make sure your day runs smoothly. The barn is stunning, and all rooms and amenities are of a very high standard so it is a lovely space to have a weekend, we particularly enjoyed being able to have both of our immediate families on site for the whole weekend.
The grounds were what really stood out to us when we were venue-hunting.. meadows, fields, wildflowers, a formal lawn, and even space to camp! There is so much versatility and so many beautiful places you can hold a ceremony and different parts of the day.
The team were just fabulous, giving excellent advice all the way through the long journey of planning a wedding, and Jenna in particular was an absolute star both in the run up and in being an oasis of calm and making sure everything was just as we wanted it on the day.
Having total flexibility over the suppliers we wanted to use was also a real advantage, and meant we could personalise every aspect of the day.
We could not recommend the venue and the team more highly!!
We are still coming down from the most fabulous time at Chaucer Barn last weekend. We have had the most amazing comments from our guests about the venue, and the laid back nature of our wedding. What a magical place you work in!
The most amazing day at the most incredible venue, I highly recommend.
We postponed our wedding reception at Chaucer from last October to just a couple of weeks ago. We still got married last year and had the party this year. We fell in love with Chaucer as soon as we visited and we are so glad we went ahead to have our postponed wedding party come anniversary this year. It is just such a magical place and we had the most wonderful day and weekend there celebrating with our friends and family. Tessa was amazing in the run up and on the day as well to ensure things ran smoothly. If you want a blank canvas venue to make your own this is the one for you – a home away home!
We held our wedding day at Chaucer Barn last Saturday and couldn’t have hoped for a more perfect venue. It was a home from home that allowed us to put together a celebration that was truly us, surrounded by friends and family. This was our third date following Pandemic restrictions, but Tessa and the team were incredibly flexible and ensured we could eventually have our day. If you would like a DIY wedding in the Norfolk countryside, this is a perfect base.
Having had two postponed wedding dates, we FINALLY got to have our BEST DAY EVER at Chaucer Barn last weekend! It truly is a fantastic venue. Photos really don’t do it justice – you have to BE THERE to feel that home from home vibe that can be further achieved by adding your own personal touches around the place. Tessa was brilliant. She was always quick to answer any queries and re-assure us throughout all the uncertainties – and was particularly helpful during set-up when a few unexpected issues arose! The weather was kind enough for us to hold the ceremony outside, which was a bonus as the grounds are spectacular! However, we had LOTS of twinkly lights (and hearts!) up inside – just in case! It truly is a wonderful place – full of charm with a definite WOW factor.
We got married in this stunning venue in March. This was the first and only venue we looked at. I fell in love with it straight away. The grounds are beautiful and the barn itself is perfect. Everything we needed and so much more.
We can’t thank the team at Chaucer Barn enough for our wonderful wedding. Tessa was incredible and helped on every step of our big day to make sure we didn’t have to worry (she even carried my wife’s train through the gardens on the way to the ceremony so it didn’t get muddy!!) everyone commented on what a stunning venue it was and we were so lucky to get married there!
No, you can invite as many guests as you wish. The barn is yours and you can make use of all the bedrooms or not. It's an overall venue hire fee for the barn as a whole which includes the accommodation.
No, that is no longer necessary for Chaucer Barn.
You can fit 80 guests in our dining space without hiring a stretch tent. The stretch tent allows you to fit an extra 20 guests, alternatively you can hire in a marquee to seat more than 100 guests.
You have the freedom to choose you suppliers except for the bar hire. For more details on the bar, please do ask us directly.
Yes, one of the perks of choosing Chaucer Barn is that you have the freedom to choose which space outside you want to get married.
