About
Setting

Birtsmorton Court is a distinguished Grade I listed family home that has stood since 1241. Situated at the foot of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, the estate spans 350 acres of private land, offering a secluded and tranquil countryside retreat. The property’s defining feature is its original moat, which encircles the historic manor, adding to its allure. The unique blend of medieval architecture and natural beauty creates a setting of timeless elegance.

The estate’s outdoor spaces are equally captivating. Guests can wander through manicured gardens filled with seasonal blooms and picturesque views. Notable highlights include the White Garden, home to white roses, foxgloves, and wisteria, all framed by sculpted topiary. The Terrace, a sunlit veranda, offers sweeping views of the moat and surrounding estate, providing a scenic spot for guests to relax.

Ceremony

Birtsmorton Court offers a variety of ceremony options, ensuring every couple’s vision is brought to life. For those dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, the estate’s lush grounds present several idyllic spots, from wildflower meadows to formal Italian-inspired gardens. Civil ceremonies can take place on the lawn, by the lake, or beside the medieval ramparts with the Malvern Hills as a dramatic backdrop.

For indoor ceremonies, couples may choose from three distinctive spaces:

  • The Great Hall: Dating back to the 13th century, this atmospheric space is filled with historical charm. Its striking architecture provides an intimate yet grand setting for up to 80 guests.
  • The Linney: A modern, light-filled space with large windows that open to the garden, accommodating up to 150 guests. It offers a blank canvas for couples to create a ceremony that reflects their personal style.
  • St. Thomas of Canterbury Church: This charming church can accommodate up to 115 guests within the estate’s grounds. Couples wishing to marry here must attend six church services in the six months leading up to the wedding.
Reception

After the ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks and canapés on the manicured lawns, in the White Garden, or inside the manor. The Linney serves as the main reception space, combining rustic charm with contemporary elegance. With a capacity for up to 160 guests, it features a timber frame, Cotswold stone floors, and large windows that open to the Courtyard Garden, allowing for a seamless indoor-outdoor experience.

The reception space can be tailored to each couple’s vision. Guests may gather on The Terrace, where drinks are served with views of the moat, or in The Great Hall, especially during cooler months when a roaring log fire creates a cosy retreat. Lawn games and photo opportunities in the White Garden add a playful touch to the celebration.

Accommodation

Birtsmorton Court accommodates up to 44 guests, ensuring close family and friends can stay on-site.

Options for the night of the wedding include:

  • The Garden House Garden House (Sleeps 10): Available for guests on the wedding night, providing comfortable and spacious accommodation.
  • Georgian Wing Bridal Suite (Sleeps 2/3): A luxurious space for newlyweds, filled with elegance and charm.
  • Malvern Chase Shepherd’s Hut (Sleeps 4): This alternative rustic yet romantic space for newlyweds offers a peaceful escape for couples seeking a nature-inspired stay.
  • Midsummer Shepherd’s Hut (Sleeps 2): A cosy, slightly smaller hut compared to Malvern Chase, featuring green accents and offering views of the Malvern Hills.
  • Sugarloaf Shepherd’s Hut (Sleeps 2): A charming, slightly smaller hut than Malvern Chase, with pink accents and a scenic view of the Malvern Hills.
  • Berrow Lodge (Sleeps 6): A rustic cottage, originally the Gatekeeper’s Cottage, perfect for friends and family just half a mile from the venue.
  • Swinyard Lodge (Sleeps 8): A bungalow opposite Berrow Lodge, just half a mile from the venue.

Options for the night before the wedding include:

  • Hideaway Cottage (Sleeps 10): A charming retreat for the night before the wedding, offering a tranquil space for pre-wedding preparations.
Food & Drink

The dining experience at Birtsmorton Court is a celebration of fresh, local, and seasonal produce. Partnering with expert caterers, the estate offers a variety of dining styles, from formal seated meals to interactive food stations and grazing boards. Evening options include wood-fired pizzas, street food, and light bites to keep guests energised throughout the celebrations.

Drinks packages are designed to be flexible, with options for champagne toasts, cocktail bars, or a full-service drinks menu. Couples may also bring their own drinks for a corkage fee.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a key focus at Birtsmorton Court. The estate works with local suppliers to reduce food miles and prioritises eco-friendly practices in its gardens and grounds. Wildflower meadows and eco-friendly land management support biodiversity. Green energy solutions, low-energy lighting, and waste reduction are integral to the venue’s operations.

Getting There

Birtsmorton Court is set in Worcestershire, near the borders of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The local area offers a rich blend of natural beauty and history, with nearby towns such as Ledbury, Malvern, and Tewkesbury. Visitors can explore cobbled streets, independent shops, and historic landmarks, including Tewkesbury Abbey and Malvern’s iconic hills.
