About

Setting

Barton Court, a small Georgian country estate on the outskirts of Colwall in Herefordshire, provides a captivating journey through a thousand years of architecture. Nestled on the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, this charming property offers a diverse collection of buildings that embody Georgian elegance, rustic charm, romantic cosiness, and edgy industrialism. The stunning backdrop of the Malvern Hills surrounds the property, creating a picturesque setting that is both private and conveniently connected. It is a truly magical location for a wedding.

Ceremony

Barton Court has three interior spaces where the ceremony can be held. The Fire Station is divided into two barns. One, the Saw Mill, echoes the shape of an aisle and is perfect for a ceremony. In the main house, the dining room or the sitting room can be used depending on the number of people. Alternatively, for gatherings of up to 50 people, the Engine Room is romantic and intimate.

Current legislation allows you to choose your spot outside: by the ponds, on the front lawn, in the Walled Garden, or on the Dovecote Lawn. All of these locations have lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

Reception

For small weddings, the dining room in the main house is ideal for an intimate wedding breakfast for around 36 people. For larger gatherings, the Dutch Barn section of the Fire Station complex can seat up to 100. The capacity of each space has now increased with the arrival of the new stretch tent, which can be moved to supplement either location.

In 2025, the Walled Garden will be ready for marquee hire, which will enable much larger events for around 250 people.

Accommodation

The main house sleeps up to 26 people in 11 bedrooms, nine ensuite bathrooms, and two dedicated shower rooms. There is no problem with a large group getting ready! The adjoining annexe offers four further small bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room. A detached cottage, close to the main house but entirely self-contained, is called The Clock Tower. This is like a ‘honeymoon suite’ offering privacy and romance for a couple. The Hayloft is a sweet little studio flat up some steep stone stairs, perfect for a sprightly duo. More accommodation will be coming available in 2025. At the moment, the property can sleep a total of 36.

Food & Drink

Barton Court is flexible about catering. Any professional catering company will be considered, provided they can provide insurance documents and references. However, some excellent catering firms used to working there come highly recommended. The property is licensed, and the house bar supplies all drinks, etc.

Sustainability

Conservation is sustainability in action. The property has 1000 years of architecture on its seven-acre site, much of which the owners have already renovated and sympathetically modernised. Wherever possible, sustainable methods have been incorporated into the refurbishment. The whole site is heated by biomass, a sustainable fuel augmented by the solar panels in the lower paddock. Water is pumped from a borehole that supplies the Malvern Spring. Across the bridge, a wildflower meadow has been sown, and an orchard has been planted. Renovate, revive, and restore are all integral parts of the philosophy there.

Local Area

Barton Court sits at the base of the western slopes of the Malvern Hills, looking to Herefordshire in the north and the Cotswolds in the south. Walking, cycling, and motoring are all popular pastimes. The excellence of local produce means that eating out is a treat. Midway between Ledbury and Malvern, it is within easy reach of many towns full of history, entertainment, and shopping.

Getting There

Barton Court is on the edge of the village of Colwall which boasts a station and has direct rail links to Bristol, Birmingham and London. The motorway network is about 3 miles from the house.
