Auchen Castle

The whole planning process was an absolute breeze thanks to the beautiful staff. The Venue was absolutely amazing, we could not have picked a better place to have our wedding.

We knew we wanted to get married in the borders, with some family in England and some in Scotland, so it was the perfect area to start looking for our venue. Initially looking east, we widened our search and came across Auchen Castle, stunning scenery, the venue itself so grand and beautiful and with a package called ‘All Taken Care Of’, we knew we were onto something. We viewed the venue, and Sarah was so lovely, she showed us round the whole venue and explained how the package worked. We were sold, no need to look at any other venues, this is where we could visualise our big day!

The ‘All Taken Care Of’ package was a dream. Once we had booked the venue, I was sent of list of all the suppliers Auchen Castle had booked for us. Of course, I had to check everyone out via Instagram and was absolutely delighted with everyone who had been booked for us. Later in our planning, we decided that one supplier was maybe not the right one for us; this was no bother to Auchen Castle, who completely understood and offered an alternative supplier.

Sarah and Lynne were fantastic throughout the whole build-up to our wedding; communication was easy, and nothing ever seemed like too much trouble. We went for a menu tasting and took some of our bridal party along, and this is where our excitement really started to build, as they fell in love with the place too. We had booked the ‘Linger Longer’ package and invited all of our guests for dinner the night before our wedding, this was fantastic for us, as we got to greet all our of guests and catch up with them over dinner and drinks.

The day itself was seamless. By the morning of our wedding, all of our guests knew Kerry by name, and she knew all of our guests, what they needed and how she could help them. Lynne was there for me all morning, just checking in, bringing me my flowers, getting me up to my room without any guests seeing and those few deep breaths before heading down for the ceremony. I cannot fault or thank these ladies enough for everything.

The whole day was magical. The canapés were delicious, the meal was incredible, and the service from all of the team at Auchen Castle was amazing. We were amazed that with a package completely booked by the venue, we were still able to really personalise our day. The team listened to what we wanted and what we had dreamed of and just made it come to life.

A week later, our guests are still sending messages of how wonderful a time they had. Auchen Castle is an absolute gem of a wedding venue. We feel so lucky to now have so many special memories in such a wonderful place.

Married October 2025

From the first visit to the castle to prospectively view it all the way through to checking out after our wedding, the venue was flawless. The staff were courteous and generally incredible, the facilities were well maintained and spotless, and the overall feeling in the castle was perfect. No question was too difficult. No request was too much. The staff were amazing to everyone within our party and everyone who was there with us commented on how amazing the wedding and venue were.

Many of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to.

The bedrooms were spacious, the beds were comfy, and the bathrooms were well-prepped and clean.

The food was excellent, the kitchen prepared an excellent meal for one guest who has very specific dietary requirements, and made them all meals as if they were just having a normal breakfast/dinner which gave them a real sense of inclusion and reassurance.

The staff, however, are the real highlight for us. Sarah, the manager, was fantastic throughout the planning process and during our stay. Lynne was a wonderful coordinator from our first initial viewing until she waved us off from the front step after the wedding. Rob was managing the evenings and was magnificent in doing so, and for some, the party was a lovely surprise, having worked with them for a number of years and was a welcoming face behind the bar. Jodie and Reuben were also brilliant and always on hand for our (many) requests and preparations before, during and after the wedding.

The venue itself is set on a gorgeous hillside near Moffat. The gardens are beautifully maintained throughout the year, the views of the loch from the rooms is outstanding and lawns at the front door are immaculate. The attention to detail in maintaining the gardens and castle are second to none.

The supplier list given to use by the venue was full of excellent choices and variety for all suppliers and gave us confidence in who we booked from their recommendations.

We cannot rate Auchen Castle as high as we wish, as there is no true reflection of how good a job they did making our day perfect,

We booked our petite package wedding two years ago with the lovely Sarah. After viewing Auchen Castle for the first time, we both fell in love.

Throughout the two years of planning, Sarah and the team have been on hand to answer all of our questions via email and Instagram. We found Auchen Castle’s Instagram page really useful to get ideas/ inspiration and to plan our decor, etc, as we live two hours away from Moffat, so it wasn’t as easy just to pop by.

Fast forward two years, and we have just had our wedding on Easter Sunday 2025. We had 25 guests join us for a two-night stay in the castle. On arrival, Fiona was on hand, we used the evening to set up and we opted for the evening bbq buffet, which was delicious, and we would recommend it. We also want to give a shout-out to Phil at the bar, who was brilliant throughout our stay.

Our wedding day was perfect from start to end, not many people can say this, but it was honestly the best day of our lives – our dream wedding!

We want to say a special thanks to Fiona, who was incredible throughout the day of our wedding, and Sarah, who has been brilliant throughout. We would also like to thank all of the staff on hand from breakfast right up until evening and the next morning. Everyone who works at the castle was super helpful, polite, and nothing was ever too much trouble.

For anyone reading this review and wondering if they should book a wedding here, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed! I wish I could do ours all over again, and our guests also said that it was the best wedding that they had ever been to!

Absolutely loved my wedding here! We had a wedding of about 26 people, and the all-inclusive made things so easy! The castle staff was very helpful when there were hiccups- such as our steamer not working, they bought another one! The food was A+ and the rooms were so nice! Owl was a hit! I felt like a Princess, and it was such a fairytale wedding.

My advice to future brides: don’t stress too much, enjoy your day because it will fly by, and remember you two are the guests of honour; don’t let the negative Nancys get to you. Also, if dancing/ party is important to you, hire the DJ.

Enjoyed every second of it and a huge part of that was because of Auchen Castle’s team. They were kind and understanding and flexible and always found a solution. Things ran smoothly in the background and the FOOD WAS DELICIOUS!

We had our wedding at Auchen Castle back in May, and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. We’re from the United States, and because we were having a destination wedding, we had to place a lot of trust in the venue. Thankfully, the entire Auchen staff, led by Fiona, Sarah, and Lynne, are world-class at their job.

Communication with Auchen was always simple, and every request, big or small, was accommodated. They translated our vision perfectly. We chose the “All Taken Care Of” package, so nearly everything was included, from the flowers to the cake to the owl delivering our rings and more. And for the pieces not part of the package (officiant, photographer, etc.) — the Auchen staff had wonderful recommendations for us.

Our family and wedding party all stayed in the castle for the weekend – it doesn’t get better than that. We added on the “Linger Longer” package to stay both Friday and Saturday night in the castle. As a result, we were able to stretch out our time with guests and really savour the wedding weekend, despite it still rushing by!

The meal plating was some of the most beautiful we’d seen at a wedding, and it tasted great too! Guests are still talking about the banoffee pie and late-night bites.

Auchen also allowed everyone to find something to do during their stay – whether it was to enjoy a cocktail at the bar, wander the grounds for a quiet moment, or simply take in the beautiful architecture and details of the castle exterior, it was truly a magical place for a wedding!

When we first found Auchen Castle through an online search, we knew there was something special about this venue. After spending the best weekend there, we can confidently say that anyone looking to get married in Scotland (local or destination) should not think twice about booking Auchen.

We had the most perfect day. From start to finish the whole process with the castle and it’s team was brilliant. Overall, Sarah and her team created a very beautiful weekend for us despite the covid precautions. If you are concerned about having a micro wedding now, please be reassured that Sarah and her team will do everything to make your day as special as ours.

We held our wedding with a group of 40 friends and family that travelled from the US to celebrate with us. From the moment I arrived, I felt like the stress of planning and guiding our guests was off of me. Sarah, Lynne and Fiona took care of all our needs, and Abby and Rob made sure no guest went thirsty at the bar. They were great to work with in the planning, accommodating my 7-hour time difference for scheduling calls and being quick to respond to any questions. We booked the petite/castle package, and all the vendors that Auchen recommended were great and easy to work with. I also appreciated how easy it was for them to accommodate our many dietary issues, and it made me feel confident that it wouldn’t be an issue.

The day of our wedding was easy, fun and truly magical. Our families and friends had a wonderful time, many saying it was the best wedding they’d ever been to–the owl ring delivery was the icing on the cake! The grounds were beautiful, the venue great for the group to gather all together, or to take quiet time in one of the lounges, and I loved that everyone was able to stay together at the castle. We’d definitely recommend to anyone considering this venue that they go ahead and book!

We had our beautiful wedding in this amazing castle. From start to finish, the staff were amazing and did everything to make our day so special. We’d like to say thank you to the whole team at Auchen Castle for our wedding at the end of February.

The planning with Sarah and Lynne went so smoothly and was invaluable. All questions and requests were swiftly answered, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. As a result, the events of the two days certainly flowed like a dream. And further thanks to Fiona and the onsite guys who helped make it all happen so fantastically. Everyone who came along has been full of praise for the castle, the facilities, the food and the overall care and attention from the team. Both days were brilliant. The menu options for the buffets, canapes and wedding breakfast were lovely, and our guests appreciated the quality of all the meals. The bar staff were great with a wide range of drinks available. We loved the venue, the grounds, the ceremony, the owl, the piper, the dining room, everything really. And the fireworks were beyond amazing. I’ve rarely seen such a display! We stayed over for both nights, as did all our guests, and the rooms were beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Views of the lake, the grounds and the surrounding hills made it even better. I think we were very lucky to choose Auchen for the occasion and would be happy to recommend it to any prospective couples thinking of this great place in southwest Scotland. The work all the team did made it unforgettable.

Our wedding at Auchen Castle was simply perfect.

I’d always wanted to get married in Scotland and have a Humanist service. From the minute I received their brochure I think my mind was made up! A trip up to see the venue confirmed my decision. The building, the bedrooms, the grounds, the communal areas and all the staff gave us such a feeling of “yes, this is the right place”.

We picked the “all taken care of” Castle package for 60, another brilliant decision. The suppliers they’ve picked are fantastic, so easy to chat with, and so much fun, and it takes all the hassle away from choosing separate suppliers. You also get exclusive use of the castle & the grounds. We highly recommend going to one of their wedding open days, you get to meet the team & lots of the suppliers, look at all the rooms & try the mouth watering canapes.

All our queries in the planning phase were dealt with quickly over email, even when there were last-minute guest changes. Thank you for your patience,
We booked an extra night with a buffet for our guests, we had quite a lot arriving the day before, highly recommended.

All the food served was exceptional! My goodness, every single guest raved about the buffet, the canapes, the wedding breakfast, the evening buffet and the amazing staff who made that happen. We can’t praise the whole team enough and to the thoughtful guy (sorry I don’t know your name) who made sure the guests who weren’t drinking alcohol were taken care of.
We had an owl, ‘Pitta’, deliver the rings to huge delight of our guests. Special mention to Callum, the piper, I think he had as many photos taken of him as me! Everyone loved him! Such an amazing guy, who helped my hubby with his kilt, helped my guests & helped Vicki my photographer take photos in the snow and most importantly piped us out to the Imperial March from Star Wars.

And Mark, the DJ, who was superb! We got together a spotify mix of 12 hours! I love dance music, hubby is a metal head and Mark pulled it all together so people were dancing all night and I had a mini rave at the end. Brilliant.

All Auchen Castle staff were amazing, smiling, happy, professional people who took care of everything. The day ran so smoothly, and all our guests said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to.

We’re gutted we didn’t get to try the pies on the evening buffet. Too busy dancing! Thank you so much for giving us an unforgettable, beautiful wedding day. We can’t wait to come back.
