In the heart of the Scottish Highlands lies Achnagairn Castle, an extraordinary five-star exclusive-use venue just outside Inverness. The castle is full of character, blending historic charm and contemporary personality. Set on a private estate surrounded by lush gardens, Achnagairn offers couples the opportunity to “Escape the Ordinary” with a wedding fully tailored to their vision. Its vaulted ballroom, landscaped grounds, and luxurious accommodation make it a stunning choice for multi-day celebrations.
The venue’s breathtaking vaulted wooden ballroom is one of Scotland’s most romantic spaces for tying the knot. Dating back to 1912, it was originally designed for the then-owner’s daughter’s 21st birthday party. Celebrations are in its DNA. Today, it is perfect for both intimate gatherings and larger ceremonies. For those who dream of an outdoor ceremony, the castle’s manicured gardens provide a magical setting. Achnagairn has hosted ceremonies of many faiths in the ballroom and gardens and will help make your ceremony bespoke to you, whether building in Scottish touches such as hand-fasting or your own unique traditions.
The ballroom is at the heart of a wedding at Achnagairn. It is the setting for couples to host their wedding breakfast and dance the night away. With space for up to 180 guests for dining and more for evening celebrations, it’s a versatile and truly unique setting. Whether planning a formal seated dinner, a relaxed buffet, or even a ceilidh to embrace Scottish traditions, the ballroom transforms effortlessly to suit your vision. The castle also boasts a series of reception rooms, ideal for cocktail hours or pre- and post-wedding events, ensuring your celebration flows seamlessly throughout your stay.
The Castle offers luxury accommodation for up to 55 guests across 24 individually styled bedrooms, each with its own name and theme. The castle bedrooms come in all different shapes and sizes: vast ones, cosy ones, huge tubs, deep beds, but always with quirks and character. Matching rooms to guests is one of the joys of planning a wedding at Achnagairn.
For larger weddings, the estate’s ‘Mini Manors’ can host an additional 81 guests in 38 bedrooms, bringing the total on-site capacity to 136. The Mini Manors, just a short walk from the castle, are self-contained five- and six-bedroom properties with ensuite bedrooms and large living areas. This unique setup ensures that your entire wedding party can celebrate together with no need for carriages at midnight!
At Achnagairn, catering is a bespoke experience. The venue works with a trusted panel of local caterers who offer a wide range of culinary options, from formal three-course meals to buffets and dessert stations, all for a range of budgets. Guests can also enjoy a taste of Scotland with options like hog roasts, whisky tastings, or traditional Scottish feasts. The bar is managed in-house, ensuring seamless service throughout your celebrations, and the venue’s flexibility means every part of the food and beverage experience can be tailored to your preferences.
Cultural preferences and external caterers can be accommodated on request.
Achnagairn Castle is committed to sustainable practices and is on a journey towards a Green Tourism accreditation. The venue works closely with local suppliers to minimise its environmental impact and support the local community. From sourcing seasonal ingredients for your menu to recycling and upcycling in everything from waste to furniture, sustainability is woven into the fabric of the estate. Achnagairn is in one of the most beautiful, nature-surrounded parts of the world. They aim to protect it.
Achnagairn Castle is perfectly placed for guests to explore the gems of the Scottish Highlands. Couples can build in Scottish traditions on the estate itself, such as Highland Games and archery, or go further afield for local gems: golf at world-renowned courses like Royal Dornoch, visits to historic sites like Culloden Battlefield, or, of course, one of Scotland’s most iconic spots, cruises and Nessie-spotting at Loch Ness. Achnagairn’s location offers the perfect balance of tranquillity and access to Highland adventures.
At the gateway to the Highlands, Achnagairn is close enough to transport links to be easily accessible but remote enough to enjoy true privacy and deep quiet.
Inverness airport is just half an hour away, with four or more flights a day to Inverness airport from London and others from Manchester, Belfast and Bristol. Those coming from further afield may choose to fly to London and catch a flight from Inverness or drive from Edinburgh. Inverness Train Station is only 20 minutes away, with connections to major cities. The estate has ample parking for guests and is well-connected to local transport services, making it a convenient destination for both local and international wedding parties.
Our wedding was at Achnagairn Estate in June of 2022. The whole event was breathtaking, and this was in no small part due to Cara and the team, who were on the ball about every little detail. We can honestly say we had the best experience, and love hearing how much all of our guests had “the most unbelievable time”.
The team at Achnagairn had great relationships with all of our vendors; Evas Covers, and the fantastic team at Good Highland Food, Marc Pacura Photography, and KBE lighting. This resulted in very open lines of communication, which helped us feel that everything ran so smoothly.
Cara and the Achnagairn team, were so good at replying to our emails, and answering all our questions, as well as reminding us about upcoming deadlines, and were a great source of information for all the various things that we didn’t know we needed. There was a lovely sense of openness and honesty when discussing all the things we did and didn’t need to do/ organize.
The Scottish Highlands delivered the most fantastic weather over the 2 days we were there, which added to the overall charm of the Scottish hospitality we experienced. We would also like to thank all the kitchen, cleaning and wait staff that were so kind and friendly to us and all our guests.
Do not underestimate the difference it makes with having a team that is calm and collected, and taking every task in their competent stride.
Forever grateful for the love and fun we experienced on our special special day.
In short: amazing.
We had our Christmas wedding at Achnagairn and it was magical – we’d fallen in love with the castle the first time we visited, and our guests who spent 3 days wandering around the place fell in love with it too!
The venue is fantastic. The hall is a jaw dropper, and every part of the estate is completely unique. Lots of the decor is eccentric, you probably won’t be a fan if you like clean lines and minimalism – but we thought it was all great fun. Every room in the castle was wonderful, our guests all thought they had got the best room in the house! (In reality, that was me in the bridal suite – which was glorious.)
I do want to specifically call out how great our planner, Nicola was as well. Words really can’t explain how good Nicola is at her job! She wasn’t exactly a wedding planner, she wasn’t going out and finding us quotes with suppliers or anything, but she was a very elevated ‘day-of’ planner and she also helped us get organised in the months before the wedding, and recommended several suppliers where we were struggling – some of hers were the best bits about the wedding. We wanted a lot of OTT elements and she was never fazed by anything, she just made a note of everything we wanted to do, and then made it happen on the day without fuss. Her capability and warmth absolutely exceeded our expectations, and she was such a calming presence through the whole process – we really could not have done it without her, and all our guests complimented her too. Big thanks Nicola!
Overall though – Achnagairn is stunning yet cosy, and we had the wedding of our dreams there. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.
We got married at Achnagairn in January 2022. Can’t fault this venue. My husband and I are Scottish but were living in New Zealand in the lead up to our wedding. Of the venues we contacted, Achnagairn’s communication stood out from the very start, organising a 3 way video tour with ourselves and my parents. Communication was faultless and they were accomodating with time differences etc in the planning stages. They also put us in contact with some great local suppliers which helped the wedding day come together wonderfully.
As our wedding day approached and the omicron covid wave swept through the UK many of our guests understandably backed out of coming to our wedding last minute. Achnagairn were so wonderful with respect to the fact that we no longer needed as many mini manors which had already been paid for. Some of the difference was taken off the drinks bill and there was an open invitation for us to return for a 2 night stay in a mini manor later in the year. An example of going above and beyond in circumstances outwith all of our control.
The Wedding Day itself was magical. Achnagairn was a stunning venue and we got the winter fairytale wedding with snow outside and roaring fireplace, great service, fun and laughter inside. The ballroom really is the jewel in the crown at Achnagairn and it looked simply stunning on the day.
James and I would both recommend Achnagairn to any other couples considering a wedding venue. Thank you to Nicola and team!
My husband Steven and I got married at this beautiful venue in May 2022, having both attended weddings here before there was no where else we wanted to have our special day! The setting is so picturesque and the attention to detail was amazing! From the get go Nicola and her team attended to our every need and on arrival until leaving all our wedding guests could not speak more highly of the service they received from all the staff! Everyone was so polite and helpful, on the day itself Nicola couldn’t have been more attentive, I was a very relaxed bride and enjoyed the amazing view from the bridal suite of our guests arriving as we carried out our final preparations! We would highly recommend this venue to anyone, the lodges on site was an added bonus for all our guests having everyone staying made for a whole weekend of intimate celebrations which we thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks again to all the team!
My wife and I chose Achnagairn Castle for our wedding venue because it just simply felt right when we first arrived at the castle to check things out! The staff, especially Nicola, was very welcoming and super friendly. She made us feel very welcome, and we knew just then that this was it! We hired the venue for two nights and had guests come over from around the world; they absolutely loved it! We did not hear a single complaint from our guests about the rooms or anything really; they all spoke very highly of the service they received from the staff. As a bride and groom, we could not express our gratitude enough for how attentive Nicola was on our wedding day. She was so calm and gentle and addressed all our requests with such politeness and professionalism that we’d never experienced before. We highly recommend this venue to anyone who seeks a stress-free yet magical and fairytale event to cherish for a lifetime. Thank you again, Nicola and your team, for all your help in making our special day so memorable!
My wife and I got married at Achnagairn in June 2022. The most amazing wedding venue ever, it was the only one we viewed as we knew as soon as we saw it, it was the one.
Nicola and the team were fantastic all the way through, organising so much for us and liaising with all of our chosen suppliers to make the weekend run without a problem. They are so good at what they do, and I’d highly recommend them! Thank you so much to everyone at Achnagairn for making our day so special.
We absolutely loved our wedding weekend at Achnagairn. It was a dream come true. A beautiful venue and all the rooms are so unique and cleaned to high standard. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I had a bit of a panic in the morning as I’d forgotten the items for the pimp your Prosecco bar and Nicola and the staff went above and beyond to get things for it so we had something to set out for guests. The day all went as planned and everyone commented how amazing the service was and the venue was, the ballroom in particular is stunning! We wish we could do it all again! Thanks again to all the staff for all their efforts and help.
What can I say! Just an incredible place, ran by the most incredible people.
My husband and I were married over a three day stay at Achnagairn at Hogmany, and it was perfect from start to finish. We hired the full estate, and it felt so intimate and relaxing being in this beautiful Scottish highland retreat, surrounded by our nearest and dearest.
The accommodation in both the castle and mini manors were just incredible. The reception rooms and areas where we hosted activities and gatherings for our guests were everything you’d expect from a 5 star highland manner. And the ballroom where our ceremony took place? Just WOW. A place I’ll never forget.
Nothing was too much trouble for the Achnagairn team. They were amazing hosts. Special mention to Cara our coordinator. She’s a true professional, and the weekend wouldn’t have ran so smoothly if it wasn’t for her.
We got married at Achnagairn in April 2022. We saw the virtual tour of the castle online (we were looking for wedding venues during covid) and instantly fell in love. The venue in real life exceeded every expectation. The grounds, castle, mini manor accommodation was all sensational.
We are both from Northern Ireland with large families and friends all over the UK. We wanted an exclusive use destination wedding where all our guests could pitch up on the Friday and have everything they needed on site for the entire weekend. This venue was perfect for that.
Nicola and the team ensured the whole weekend ran smoothly from beginning to end. We packed so much in – from a pizza party the night before (with amazing wood fire pizza van on the lawn), to a jam packed wedding day which finished with karaoke at 4am to Sunday morning tea and wedding cake, Nicola and the team were on hand to meet every need. The best bit about the venue is that it’s exclusive use. That adds such a special element because you know everyone on site is there for the wedding. To be able to accommodate 120 guests in the one place was amazing. It created such a special buzz and everyone had quality time together. We could also party the night away without worrying about disturbing neighbours and didn’t need to wrap up the party early! The vaulted ballroom is a true fairytale setting – our guests could not believe how beautiful it was.
At the end of the weekend, we didn’t even say we wished we could do it all again as everything was perfect and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. Thank you to the Achnagairn team from making that happen. The staff that served breakfast / cleared up were wonderful also – so accommodating. There were so many extra special touches that the Achnagairn team did. For example, they had a flag with our names on congratulating us! Thank you Achnagairn team.
We had our wedding weekend at The Achnagairn Estate from 14th – 16th October 2022 and it was just perfect – we can’t thank Cara and the team at Achnagairn enough for making our weekend so special.
We booked our date 2 years before and from the planning stages all the way through to the weekend itself, the team from Achnagairn have been just amazing at making sure every detail was taken care of. On our wedding day we didn’t need to worry or stress about a thing – the team took care of absolutely everything! I can’t recommend this magical venue enough for your wedding day, or any other special party for that matter.
I can only hope that one of our family or friends decide to get married here so that we can come back and experience it all again!
We don't. At Achnagairn, we are all about having the time to really drink your wedding in and not have it over in a flash. For that reason, all our weddings are two nights or more.
Achnagairn Castle is an exclusive-use venue, so room allocations are entirely up to you. Many couples offset costs by charging guests for rooms (typically £100-300 per room per night, depending on size or at a flat rate). We offer optional services to help facilitate payments and can provide suggested pricing tiers and tools for assigning rooms. Deciding who stays in each of our unique bedrooms is one of the joys of planning at Achnagairn, and with so many beautifully designed rooms to choose from, there's something for everyone!
At Achnagairn, we don't offer catering in-house but work with a panel of four excellent caterers. This allows for different options for a variety of budgets and tastes. We are delighted to recommend the caterer that might work best for you or put you in touch with them all!
We do ask that you work with one of our recommended caterers as they know our kitchen and equipment. Still, if you have another caterer in mind for cultural or religious reasons, we are happy to accommodate this with a kitchen fee.
At Achnagairn, our team handles the bar on the day of the wedding itself, and all alcohol is then supplied through us. We have a wide choice on our wine list and are delighted to discuss cocktails and other things you have in mind!
