This true Cheshire gem strikes that elusive balance between refined and relaxed, classic and comfortable. With space for up to 100 guests and accommodation for 22, it’s a setting that invites couples to slow down, truly settle in, and soak up every moment of their celebration.
From intimate dinners around the long dining table to barefoot games on the lawn, the atmosphere is both luxurious and laid-back — warm, welcoming, and utterly extraordinary — the kind of place where time stretches and memories take root.
It’s a pleasure to share their story and open the doors to this much-loved family home, now transformed into a soulful wedding retreat. Over to the team at Scarlet Hall for everything you need to know about this remarkable 12-acre estate.
We discovered Scarlet Hall at auction back in 2004 and fell in love with it immediately. We had been searching for a period property with land near Chester, and Scarlet Hall was everything we were looking for and more. From the beginning, it had the feel of a true celebration home. It naturally brought people together, and it wasn’t long before friends and family began suggesting that it would make a beautiful wedding venue. That encouragement, combined with the house’s inherent charm and capacity for hosting, made the transition into a wedding destination feel like a natural next step. Over the years, we’ve continued to evolve and enhance the experience we offer, always to make each celebration as seamless and special as possible.
At Scarlet Hall, couples have exclusive use of the entire 12-acre estate, creating a private and truly immersive wedding experience. With a charming blend of historic character, luxurious comfort, and open countryside, every space on the estate offers a unique moment within the wedding journey, whether you’re planning an intimate elopement or a celebration with up to 100 guests.
At the heart of the celebration is our beautifully restored rustic barn, where guests can gather for the ceremony, dining, and late-night dancing. With twinkling fairy lights and exposed beams, the barn is effortlessly romantic and atmospheric, no matter the season. It’s perfect for a candlelit dinner, a lively dance floor, or a heartfelt ceremony surrounded by loved ones.
With the rolling Cheshire countryside as its backdrop, Scarlet Hall offers endless opportunities for outdoor weddings and alfresco celebrations. With five acres of sweeping lawns, a charming orchard, and meadow paths, the grounds are ideal for everything from lawn games and outdoor lounges to ceremonies beneath the trees or photos bathed in golden hour light. Couples often use the grounds to set up outdoor seating areas, or even treasure hunts for younger guests; there’s lots of space to be creative.
The main manor house and adjacent coach house together provide 11 luxurious bedrooms and a series of versatile indoor spaces. These include cosy snugs, open lounges, and sociable dining areas, perfect for getting ready, hosting pre-wedding dinners, or unwinding after the big day. The bedrooms are thoughtfully arranged across both buildings to offer privacy and flexibility, ideal for accommodating multi-generational groups or separate parties the night before the wedding.
For a little pre-wedding relaxation, couples and their guests can take full advantage of the indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, games room, cinema room, and table tennis area. These features turn the wedding weekend into more than a celebration; it becomes a true retreat.
The property is steeped in history, originally built circa 1640 as a timber-framed farmhouse. It’s a Grade II listed building, and when we first discovered it, much of its character was hidden beneath a modern façade, the beautiful old timbers completely concealed. Many of the outbuildings were derelict, and the house was in serious need of restoration.
To ensure that we approached the renovation with respect for its heritage, we employed an archaeologist to conduct a historical building assessment. This proved invaluable in helping us gain planning permission to sympathetically alter and extend the house while preserving its historical essence.
Interestingly, the house came with an extensive archive of old deeds and maps dating back to the early 18th century, providing a tangible link to its long and fascinating past. More recently, after we downsized into one of the barns on the property, the house and pool complex were let to a young Prince from a foreign royal family while he was training to fly at an RAF base near Shrewsbury, adding yet another chapter to its rich and varied history.
Scarlet Hall requires a minimum three-night stay, allowing guests to unwind and fully immerse themselves in the experience. From the moment they arrive, there’s a sense of calm and anticipation. Whether it’s gathering for a casual BBQ on the lawn, playing croquet and rounders, or enjoying drinks by the fire in one of the cosy snugs, there’s space for everyone to connect and create lasting memories.
In the summer, the gardens come alive with lawn games, outdoor dining, and long, relaxed debriefs under the sun. In the winter, the atmosphere transforms into something intimate and atmospheric, with fires crackling in multiple rooms and the warm glow of candlelight filling the house.
There are several standout features at Scarlet Hall that couples consistently fall in love with. One of the first is the long driveway leading to the house. It creates a genuine sense of anticipation and excitement as guests arrive, setting the tone for the celebrations to come.
As guests arrive, they’re welcomed by beautifully kept gardens, the self-catering accommodation, and the event barn, each space offering its own charm and countless photo opportunities. The barn is often described as magical, especially when the twinkle lights come on in the evening.
Inside the property, couples appreciate the unexpected luxuries, such as the indoor swimming pool and a long dining table that serves as a gathering place for shared meals, laughter, and speeches that often last well into the night.
As a dry hire venue, couples have the flexibility to tailor their experience to suit their personal tastes and style. While we don’t provide in-house catering, we work closely with a carefully curated list of recommended catering suppliers, all of whom are familiar with the venue and understand how to deliver exceptional service in our setting.
These trusted partners have a proven track record of creating everything from elegant, multi-course wedding breakfasts to relaxed sharing-style feasts and street food-inspired evening bites. At the point of enquiry, we provide each couple with our full list of recommended suppliers to help streamline the planning process and ensure peace of mind.
We’re always looking for ways to elevate the experience for our couples and their guests. We are passionate about continuously evolving the property while maintaining its timeless charm and relaxed atmosphere.
One of our latest additions is a newly completed jetty, which offers a stunning and tranquil backdrop for wedding day photography. Nestled within the grounds, it’s a romantic spot that perfectly captures the natural beauty of the estate.
We also take great pride in the seasonal transformation of our gardens. With a keen personal interest in gardening, we love curating and enhancing the landscape throughout the year. Whether it’s spring blossoms, lush summer borders, or rich autumn tones, the ever-changing garden provides a dynamic and beautiful setting for outdoor ceremonies, drinks receptions, and photographs.
Looking ahead, we continually explore thoughtful improvements, both big and small, that can enhance the guest experience, preserve the character of Scarlet Hall, and continue to make weddings here truly unforgettable.
