Located within the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, this picturesque 40-acre site is a venue like no other. The Museum’s grounds offer an atmosphere of quiet tranquillity and are peppered with fascinating historic buildings, woodland areas, grazing farm animals, and a beautiful mill pond. This authentic setting, combined with limited availability, makes for a unique and exclusive wedding venue, perfect for couples after something a little different.
As part of your wedding day at the Weald & Downland Living Museum, you and your guests have access to the entire Museum. You will also receive a one-year joint adult membership so you can visit throughout the year and relive those special memories.
The Downland Gridshell
The first building of its kind in the UK, the Gridshell is a unique and exquisite setting for civil ceremonies and receptions for up to 180 people.
With its shell-like shape made from solid oak, the Downland Gridshell is an architecturally awe-inspiring and dramatic building surrounded by peaceful and beautiful woodland. Each year, the Museum releases a limited number of dates to give couples the opportunity to use this incredible space for their wedding ceremony and reception, making the Gridshell a truly one-of-a-kind backdrop for your special day.
Crawley Hall
Situated in the heart of the Museum’s medieval market square and surrounded by cobbled paths and historic buildings, this charming timber-framed barn is ideal for more intimate wedding celebrations. Licensed for civil ceremonies, Crawley Hall can host parties of up to 50 guests, followed by an informal buffet reception or picnic.
You can also opt for the Museum’s special West Sussex Wedding Package, which includes mouth-watering grazing hampers featuring lots of local flavours and produce carefully sourced from the surrounding region. From locally produced sparkling wine, Sussex cheese and homemade scones to the fruit and meat which comes from local businesses.
Greenways Field
The Greenways Field is a completely blank canvas for those looking for a marquee-style wedding. Nestled in amongst the sublime countryside setting with the Museum in the backdrop, it offers an idyllic and tranquil setting for your celebrations.
The Weald & Downland Living Museum is situated on Town Lane in Singleton, seven miles north of Chichester. The venue is accessible by car, with ample parking available on-site.
Thank you so much for all your hard work in preparation for and on the day of the wedding. We had the absolute best day ever!
Your attention to detail and time the day before to make sure the aisle walk and logistics were all sorted – this made such a huge difference! You were so, so efficient and professional throughout the whole day.
Saturday was hands down the most memorable, incredible day we’ve ever had! Thank you so much for making it so special. We can’t wait to come back on our anniversary, and we’ll be sure to send the photos as soon as we have them!

The Gridshell building was beautiful and everything we had hoped; we have had some of the photographs back already, and it looks absolutely stunning. It was so nice to be able to make it our own, and Hannah and Georgia were amazing at sharing inspiration, giving ideas, and letting us use furniture that was already there to create the look and atmosphere that we were hoping for. The team were always easy to contact and quick to respond, we especially appreciated the effort that went into helping us to arrange visits to the venue and the diligence and attention to detail in ensuring that we were all ready for our wedding day. The guests also loved having access to the museum, and plenty of them had time to explore!
