New Neutrals at 100 Barrington Road

And as we cruise towards the end of the year, I think this styled shoot might end up being one of my 2021 highlights! It’s certainly ticking a lot of my wedding inspo boxes; a gorgeous mix of natural lighting and flash photography tick, a healthy dose of romantic black and white portraits tick, glamorous bridal style tick, and some serious real couple chemistry TICK!

100 Barrington was already one of my favourite venues in London, but after a huge refurb and expansion I just can’t sing its praises enough! It’s such a stunning, cool, industrial space (or spaces now!) which feel like an oasis right in the heart of Brixton.

The team there took on a serious challenge, transforming unused railway arches into beautiful event spaces to bring the venue to a whole new level. We chose to focus our attention on the newly finished arch with its raw brick backdrop (drool!), concrete aggregate flooring, distressed zinc bar and the most incredible mother-of-pearl chandelier! It’s a perfect space for post-ceremony cocktails and we wanted to really show it off.

We knew from the start that we wanted to use the exposed brickwork of 100 Barrington as our backdrop. We worked with the different tones of the brick to draw out our neutral colour palette – we wanted to inject romance and warmth to the space to show couples just how versatile it is.

Our colour palette was put together with the colourings of the venue in mind. We wanted to play with the terracotta tones and pale neutrals to create something which felt elegant but modern. It was important to us that the images reflected and appealed to our contemporary clients, to act as inspiration for couples on the hunt for an aesthetic which felt warm but with the edge they’re craving.

Love in Lace Bridal dressed our incredible bride in two gorgeous gowns from Alena Leena – the super romantic Stella Alpina in tulle with a low-cut open back and delicate vines of lace added a softness to the shoot. Our second gown, Calathea, was one to appeal to the modern bride, with its square neckline and dreamy all-over beading to add a touch of glamour.

Sarah Drummond created two key looks for our bride; loose, flowing waves with a bold red lip to tie in with the contemporary vibe of the Calathea gown, and a more paired back, natural look with a textured low pony to mirror the softness of the Stella Alpina.

The stunning pearl, gold and diamond pieces from Gaïa Studio No.1 added a sense of timeless elegance to both bridal looks. Each of the pieces have been designed to celebrate beauty of individuality, authenticity and nature’s raw imperfections – they’re perfect for a bride looking for jewellery with a difference for their wedding day.

Made by Wood & Wood nailed the stationery and signage brief and created something new and exciting for couples who might want to do things a little differently. I’m obsessed with their hanging fabric banners so knew they were a must for this shoot – they’re just the perfect way to add personality, texture and style to your wedding day, and they always work so beautifully with a mixture of florals and candles.

We knew from the start that we didn’t just want this to be a ‘pretty’ shoot. Our colour palette naturally lends itself to boho weddings which are of course beautiful, but we wanted to create a set-up which shows a different take on the palette. We tore away from the neutrals-only theme with touches of dark grey glass and black metal chairs which we felt worked so well against the raw brick wall.

Our tablescape was key to drawing everything together – Poppy created the most perfect centrepieces and flower meadows and we added a beautifully-biscuity linen from Casa di Gaia and stoneware crockery, gold cutlery and gold-rimmed smoke grey glassware from The Luxe Collection to bring our modern look to life.

As a die-hard Ester & Erik fan, I took myself out of my comfort zone for this shoot and looked to the high street. H&M offer the most gorgeous selection of tapered candles and the colours just worked so well! I’d definitely recommend couples checking out their homeware for affordable candles for their day. I scoured Etsy to find the perfect candle holders and LOVED our terracotta and white Jesmonite concrete beauties. They tied everything on the table together beautifully.

The cake was an absolute beauty! Give Abigail from M+H Cake Company a colour palette and a rough brief and she totally nails it! I was obsessed with the tiers in differing heights and the beautiful colourings.

Poppy Wild Floral’s approach is whimsical and free-flowing, with a contemporary elegance. Our beautiful bouquet was flower-heavy with subtle textured foliage knitted in and the venue arrangements incorporated intentionally unruly foliage and herbs to create interest, three dimensional form, and importantly scent.

We hope the shoot inspires couples to be bold in their style decisions for their wedding day, and do what suits them and their style.
