Setting
Stockton House, a historic Georgian property built in 1702, offers an intimate and luxurious escape to the Shropshire countryside. Surrounded by 8,500 acres of the Apley Estate, the house is a testament to over 300 years of heritage. The estate encompasses sweeping fields, serene woodlands, and the gentle flow of the River Severn. Every room in Stockton House has been meticulously crafted to showcase the area’s stunning natural beauty, providing a backdrop of peace and timeless elegance for any celebration. Nearby, the historic towns of Ironbridge and Bridgnorth add to the charm of the setting.
Ceremony
For your ceremony, Stockton House offers two distinct options. Outdoors, vows can be exchanged beneath the sheltering tree canopy, with guests seated on the lawn and a custom aisle created for your entrance.
With its civil ceremony licence, the intimate Victorian turning house at the bottom of the garden adds a truly unique touch-after signing the register, the house rotates 360 degrees before you step out, newly married, to greet your guests.
Alternatively, St Chad’s Church, just a short stroll down the lane, provides a beautiful setting for either a ceremony or blessing, rich with historic architecture and centuries of tradition.
Reception
The reception is hosted in a purpose-built, 100-seater dining room, cleverly disguised as a secret walled garden-a charming design inspired by 18th-century aesthetics. This enchanting space serves as a setting for civil ceremonies and a venue for the wedding breakfast and evening celebrations. Once inside, guests are greeted with a large, open space featuring a double-curved ceiling, opulent chandeliers, and expansive windows that open to reveal the beauty of the surrounding gardens.
Accommodation
Stockton House provides seven individually designed en-suite bedrooms, each offering a unique blend of Georgian elegance and modern luxury. With features such as roll-top baths overlooking the gardens and private dressing rooms, every guest can enjoy a truly special experience. The stylish interiors create a serene and comfortable retreat, ensuring that guests feel pampered throughout their stay.
Food & Drink
At Stockton House, the foodie experience is as bespoke as the venue itself. Exclusive menu tastings, designed to feel like an intimate dinner party, allow you to indulge in the flavours of your wedding day in advance. The venue’s chefs work closely with you to create a personalised menu while your hosts guide you through each course, helping you plan the perfect dining experience to complement your special day.
Sustainability
In line with a commitment to sustainability, Stockton House uses eco-friendly systems wherever possible. The heating and water supply are powered by a wood chip boiler fuelled by locally sourced wood from the surrounding Apley Estate. Even the luxurious carpets are made from recycled plastics, ensuring that comfort and sustainability go hand in hand throughout the venue.
Local Area
Stockton House is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding area. The picturesque riverside town of Bridgnorth is only 10 minutes away, while Telford, known for its great shopping, is just a 15-minute drive. These nearby locations offer additional options for entertainment and last-minute preparations, making Stockton House a perfect weekend destination.
