Opulent, Outdoor Micro Wedding Inspiration at Bury Court Barn

They have the most beautiful, high ceiling barn bursting with character and grandeur, as well as superb botanical gardens, and a majestic courtyard. On this occasion, it was the perfect backdrop for this colourful, opulent, outdoor shoot by hair and makeup stylist Rosie Hart and Laura and Jon at VLA Photography.

Rosie says…

We wanted to showcase an intimate, outdoor ceremony and this venue ticked every box! The lush, bountiful garden at Bury Court Barn acted as our backdrop and provided the overall chilled and relaxed ambiance to our shoot.

There was a huge Grecian influence behind this shoot, which is shown in the style of dress, the use of olive tree branches, and the rich blue, green and purple colour palette. When it came to styling, Ella’s use of rustic candles, display units, magnificent velour chairs, lanterns and a beautiful selection of trinkets completely bought the concept to life! These accessories, alongside the stunning olive branch and fig cake, and fantastic stationery gave our set up its wonderful, rich personality. We loved the idea of bringing the inside to the outdoors, and the addition of lighting really helped us achieve that – I mean chandeliers above the table, why not! They were such a desirable addition, and elevated the glamorous, luxurious detail of our set up.

Sophie Rose Bridal, who specialises in effortless, ethereal wedding gowns for the contemporary bride, bought a gown named ‘Coral’ to the shoot which embodied the theme entirely. The elegant arm drapes really added to the grecian aspect of the theme, it was truly perfect. To accessorise the look, we had a very delicate veil, as well as a stunning gold and diamond crown. To really accentuate these pieces, I decided to keep the hair relatively simple, with some big, bouncy curls. When it came to makeup, Holly was fortunate enough to have a beautiful, glowy base tan anyway, so I kept the face makeup natural and bronzed and focused on enhancing the eyes. She did this by using a mixture of brown and mauve eyeshadow and added a couple flusters of individual lashes, just to make Holly’s beautiful eyes pop even more!

We had an abundance of florals and foliage including beautiful Hydrangeas, Eucalyptus, Rose hips, Ferns, Cymbidium Orchids and olive branches. The bouquet was wild, relaxed, and romantic with lots of texture and dimension, and the table set up was just as untamed and natural.

The bursts of purple and fuchsia against the twinkly chandeliers added opulence, and balanced by the use of the primary greens from the vines and olive branches. Rosie Orr also bought some fantastic rustic hops with her, which looked tremendous draped over the cool and quirky Prosecco Tuk Tuk van which was parked up in the striking courtyard. The flowers are featured throughout the entire set up, which ensured there was continuity of the theme throughout.

It was important for us to inspire future couples, and create something that was luxurious, but totally affordable. We also wanted it to be believable, so that couples could get lost in the magic and romance of the shoot and place themselves in the models shoes. We actually used a ‘real life’ couple, who are engaged to be married in 2021. Their natural bond and connection is what makes this shoot so charming and captivating, and we hope this encourages future couples to go ahead with their weddings despite Covid restrictions, and have the most incredible, unforgettable day!
