Mita & Nathan chose Poundon House for their English & Indian fusion wedding and it was perfect. With a stylish wedding ceremony in their Yellow Room and an outdoor traditional Hindu ceremony, this venue was the perfect exclusive-use country house for this gorgeous celebration!

Nathan and I got married at the beautiful Poundon House in Oxfordshire. The family run Country House is set in private grounds boasting amazing views of the Oxfordshire countryside. There were so many reasons why we chose Poundon House; it is a stunning property and expertly run by a lovely family. Despite its grand nature it always felt intimate and welcoming, like you were staying in a family home and Esmond and his family were amazingly accommodating.
It was the first venue we looked at and we simply fell in love with its charm and history. The venue definitely gave us the stunning backdrop and ‘wow’ factor we wanted and provided the perfect “English Country” setting to our colourful fusion wedding.
As we were having two ceremonies, one of the key factors was to find a venue which would allow us exclusive use from the early morning to the late evening. Poundon House provided us with exclusive use for the whole weekend, which was amazing. Our wedding felt like a true escape. Poundon House offered a range of possibilities for your wedding day, each part of the house and grounds is a perfect as the next so it enabled us to plan our day to maximise the space.
We decided to use their Yellow Room for the civil ceremony, as we wanted to our guests to enjoy the vintage charm of the house from inside. This was followed by an afternoon tea in the marquee whilst we prepared for the Hindu ceremony that took place on the patio outside with the countryside as our backdrop. We used the lawn and water fountain area to host the champagne reception and everyone finally moved back to the marquee for the Wedding Breakfast.
With our wedding being a fusion between Indian and English cultures we were in a fortunate position where we could be quite selective with the style of wedding we wanted. We both like to be a bit different where we can so we didn’t really stick to a particular style but we wanted the elegance and charm of an English wedding with the colours and exuberance of Indian weddings. As much as we could we mixed the two elements together, such as our afternoon tea where, along with the more traditional items, we served sandwiches with cheese and chutney, masala tea and a spiced sticky toffee and date cake. We both love a great party and we wanted ours to have a sophisticated edge so I chose a dress that would look just as suitable for the red carpet as a wedding, the groomsmen wore black tie and Nathan changed in to a tuxedo in the evening.
A ‘Home Tour’ of Newington House

Notes from Newington House

The story of Newington House is impossibly romantic. Built in the 17th Century as a gift for a homesick Italian princess by her British husband, the house is styled on Rubens’ collection of engravings, “The Palaces of Genoa”, the look is a beautiful blend of both classic English and Italian design.
Newington House was lovingly restored by the Nettleton Family in the 1980’s and it’s interior reflects the house’s Italian influence and is very classical and elegant in design. Many of the original features remain which add to history and grand feel of the house.
Blenheim Palace; A Special Wedding Destination

So what does make Blenheim Palace a special wedding destination I hear you ask..? Well funnily enough I have some answers for you. Discover why the Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site makes such a special, memorable and unique venue for a wedding celebration and civil ceremony!

- 300 years of history and counting Blenheim Palace is a privately-owned home and Estate with a hugely diverse history that is still being written. The Dukes of Marlborough have lived here since 1705 and today the Palace is home to the 12th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough and their family. The Estate is a working one and is part of a long, living and lasting heritage.
- Sir Winston Churchill (who was born in the Palace) once said “My greatest achievement was to persuade my wife to marry me” and he achieved this in The Temple of Diana in the formal gardens here. Churchill proposed to his beloved Clementine as they took shelter from a downpour in summer 1908. The spot is now a romantic must-visit for couples and a popular wedding photo location.
- ‘The Finest View in England’ Blenheim Palace is surrounded by over 2000 acres of Parkland, and is one of the largest and most impressive projects by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, the famous English landscape gardener. The parkland is unrivalled and in 1874 Lord Randolph Churchill (Sir Winston’s father) named the one part of the Park as having “The finest view in England”.
- UNESCO World Heritage Site There are only a few places across the world given the right to call themselves a World Heritage Site, and Blenheim Palace is one of them. Being awarded its status in 1987, the Blenheim Palace Estate is ‘recognized as being of outstanding international importance and therefore as deserving special protection’, meaning you won’t find a more beautiful or cared-for setting for your big day.

This home-from-home wedding venue in Oxfordshire is a fave amongst newly-engaged couples and it’s so easy to see why. Wedding Weekends at The Copse offers a glorious self catering country house, high in the Chiltern Hills with views over its own valley of outstanding natural beauty. You can host your reception and ceremony surrounded by flower meadows and water in total privacy and seclusion.
Now layer on top this the utterly gorgeous styled inspiration shoot, by Wedding Planner Jenna Hewitt and Kitty Wheeler Shaw Photography, and I’m sure they’ll be a few more of you falling head over heels for The Copse.

The Copse was my inspiration for this styled shoot. This beautiful, new wedding venue sits in the heart of the English countryside and is owned by Penny and Tim Holley. A country house with extensive land, The Copse offers laid back luxury for couples looking for the flexibility to do things their way. I fell in love with it after I planned Penny’s son’s wedding there in August last year, it holds such a magical beauty and charm with a relaxed feel.

Poundon House in Oxfordshire is a beautiful Queen Ann style house that welcomes the most wonderful weddings. Situated in open countryside and with far-reaching views towards Waddesdon it’s an idyllic location.
As Poundon is a family owned house, there’s a warm atmosphere and a laid back nature. The team know exactly what to do when it comes to weddings & events and are more than experienced with how the house works having hosted parties and gatherings for over ten years. When I was a lawyer in the City, yoga was a wonderful escape from corporate life. Now it is my way of life and I am lucky enough to be able to open my family home to a cornucopia of yoga teachers and retreat companies.
Back in 2012 I left behind the greyness of the legal world for the colour of the wellbeing life and returned home to set up the yoga retreats side of Poundon House – our family business – an exclusive private country house venue in Oxfordshire. Poundon comes alive as a wedding venue over the summer months but we wanted to make the most of it outside of the wedding season and, having grown up there, I knew it was an ideal location for yoga retreats and well-being events.
Four years on, I like to think that we have turned Poundon into a vibrant destination yoga venue. And last summer, my sister Natalie and I went one step further and established our own retreats company (appropriately called ‘&SISTER’) that allows us to put our own special touches on the retreats that we host at the house. We take the passing of the seasons as the focus for the themes of our retreat and tie that in with the bucolic surroundings of Poundon. We are so lucky that our countryside location allows nature to provide the perfect backdrop to each of our events.
