Nestled in the North Yorkshire countryside, Thicket Priory dates back to the 1840s and was not open to the public until 2009. Designed and built by Edward Blore, best known for his work at Buckingham Palace, it has been restored to create a stunning private house available for exclusive hire only. For those wanting a ‘home away from home’ wedding experience, it is a perfect place to stay.
Thicket Priory is a unique gem, boasting a private chapel, 35 distinctive en-suite bedrooms, a grand ballroom, and vast gardens with a picturesque lake and boathouse. With its multiple ceremony spaces, both indoor and outdoor, the possibilities for creating magic at Thicket Priory are truly endless.
We have plenty of main spaces for you and your guests to enjoy and make the most of during your stay. The Gryffin Bar, with its lounge, is the ideal spot for you to relax with a drink in hand the night before your wedding or to pop to before returning to the dance floor during your evening reception. The Old Kitchen and Parlour provides the perfect place for you to have your intimate meal with your closest family and friends the night before your wedding, complete with our pantries dotted around the building filled with tea, coffee and biscuits available whenever you want, Tunnock’s Teacakes being our personal favourite!
We have two main bedrooms, The Buckingham Suite and The Vavasour Suite, perfect for couples who want to follow tradition and spend the night apart or just want to get ready separately in the morning. Our rooms offer stunning views of the grounds and are each named after a part of the building’s history, which is a great ice breaker for your friends and family who are meeting for the first time: lots of storytelling!
We believe the night before your wedding at Thicket Priory should be as memorable as the big day itself. That’s why we offer a range of unique activities, from movie nights and S’mores to pub quizzes and axe throwing! These activities are the perfect way to kick off your wedding weekend in style.
Having your wedding the day after checking in means everyone has had a chance to settle in and be introduced, so you no longer have to feel like a ‘host’; you just get to enjoy the time with your friends and family for the big day! You can also enjoy breakfast together on the final day before saying your goodbyes, checking out and heading home.
