Kim & Tom’s Thicket Priory Wedding

by Caitlin Hoare

“Amazing food, wine and live music is always a great recipe for a good time!”
I couldn’t agree more Kim!

Kim and Tom got married in early March 2020, just before the first lockdown. Theirs would have been one of the last big weddings of the year at Thicket Priory, so no doubt they have cherished this day and its memories over the last few months. Although many events have since been reduced in size or postponed, here is a beautiful wedding to inspire and reassure couples that we will be able to dine, toast and dance together again.

Notes from the Bride

Kim says..

Having attended lots of weddings over the last few years we knew that we wanted to find a venue that none of our guests had been to before. After a high tech Google search for ‘new wedding venues in North Yorkshire’ we stumbled across Thicket Priory and knew right away that it would be perfect for us. In fact it was the only venue that we looked at! We were looking for a venue that we could call home for the entire weekend, as well as accommodate all of our friends and family. The space both inside and outside is just stunning and decorated with warmth, character and a modern charm. When walking into the bridal suite for the first time I just knew that I could see me getting ready there with my girls and a few bottles of champagne!

I knew that instead of having a traditional style veil that I wanted a cape. Tor at Victoria Robson Bridal was amazing and really brought my vision to life. She handmade the cape, which was attached to the shoulders of my dress by poppers that could be removed ready for when it was time to hit the dance floor! My dress was by the designer Maggie Sottero and was a gorgeous ivory lace. Hair and make up was soft and natural by Ali Martin. We hit the high street for the bridal party with dresses from ASOS and menswear from Moss Bros. The guys wore polka dot ties (believe it or not from eBay!) which really helped to add a pop of colour.

Thicket Priory is such a beautiful venue that we wanted to keep the styling as simple and stylish as possible. Lots of candles, greenery and pops of blush, burgundy and pale pink were all that was needed to make the styling feel really effortless.

Laura from Mint and Moose was our amazing florist who created our stunning flowers. We used a burgundy tone to add a pop of colour to a wild, natural and rustic arrangement, finished off with ribbon. She used a mixture of blooms in pastel shades such as hellebore, vintage roses and brownies carnations. We also had mixed foliage and herbs used as pew ends.

We used the fabulous Baba Ganoush for our catering. They were amazing and let us design the whole menu based on all of our favourite dishes! Following a champagne and canapé reception we dug in to a Yorkshire sharing platter followed by everyone’s favourite – steak and chips – with their infamous Baba Butter melted on top.

We loved the fact that Caitlin + Jones were a couple – Nathan who does the photography and Ellie who makes the most amazing film. Their style is so cool, moody and natural, which really suited Thicket Priory and the laid back wedding that we had set out to have. They did a great job at capturing the natural shots of the day – particularly our little girl Ruby.

Choosing to get married in early spring was always a little risky. Would we have snow or sunshine?! Turned out that the sun shone for long enough for us all to enjoy champagne and canapés on the terrace which was a really lovely and pleasant surprise! We loved being able to chat and mingle with all of our guests whilst being in the gardens and looking back at our stunning venue.

From one couple to another…

A lot of our suppliers described me as a very chilled and laid back bride and I like to think that I was! We were planning a weekend spent with all of our amazing friends and family so why be stressed?! Sometimes less is definitely more – keep things simple. Amazing food, wine and live music is always a great recipe for a good time!
