Holly & Olly’s Broadfield Court Micro Wedding

by Caitlin Hoare
Images by Edd Taylor Weddings.
Holly & Olly chose Broadfield Court largely due to its stunning rural surroundings. Having grown up in leafy Shropshire, I can totally understand the pull of a beautiful countryside location.

Although micro weddings were somewhat forced upon us last year, seeing so many intimate weddings taking place during such a tough year has only confirmed to me just how special they can be. Keep scrolling to view more of this wonderful wedding, and one of the most romantic moments I’ve viewed from last year; H & O took some time out in the evening to simply drink some fizz together and have a good ol’ natter around the fire pit…bliss!

Notes from the Bride

Holly says…

The countryside holds a special place in our hearts so a venue surrounded by fields and nature was really important to us. We were really looking for somewhere we could have exclusive use of and as we pulled into Broadfield Court‘s driveway I got that excited bubbly feeling in my tummy. The house (and staff) made us feel at home, the historic character was so appealing to us and we loved all of the different rooms, each with their own unique feel. We then stepped outside and were just blown away by the views!

My beautiful multiple lace-layered dress was a Morilee by Madeline Gardner. It was the second dress I tried on and as soon as I stood on that box and looked in the mirror I cried, I just knew it was the one. My shoes were made from tulle and satin, they had a cute little blue gem on the sole for ‘something blue’ and a t-bar design adorned with pearls. My earrings were beautiful oyster pearls from Irish designer Lori Muldoon and my necklace was a single pearl on a delicate gold chain which my Grandma gave to me before she passed away.

Oliver’s suit was a moss tweed 3 piece suit by Marc Darcy, which matched the overall country inspired aesthetic for the day. We adore animals and have cats, chickens and ducks at home, so as a little nod to them on the day Oliver’s tie, from Mrs Bow Tie, was adorned with little ducks. On the morning of the wedding I gave him an antique pocket watch from Cavendish Jewellers, which he absolutely adored. Every time I looked at him on the day he had the pocket watch out telling someone the time (whether they wanted to know or not)!

Our love for the countryside meant we wanted our wedding day to reflect that. The venue is situated in a beautiful rural location so it was the perfect setting. We added some small country themed touches here and there with pine cones on our tables to hold the place cards and our wedding favours were animal charity pin badges in support of the RSPB.

We planned our wedding in such short notice due to Covid so we didn’t get a chance to meet all of our suppliers beforehand but our florist managed to capture the vibe perfectly. Kat, aka The Fabulous Florist, created the most beautiful bouquet for me featuring eucalyptus, white roses, white hydrangeas, pine cones, rosemary, pampas grass… and more. The theme for the bouquet was whites and greens with scent which continued into the table flowers, the corsages and button holes. I adored everything Kat created.

Our cake was created by the absolutely incredible Sharon McGowen and was a 2 tier sponge topped with Swiss meringue swirls, blackberries, figs and chocolate macarons. The bottom tier was raspberry and white chocolate and the top tier was salted caramel; both were absolutely delicious!

The food was beautiful. Catering for the wedding breakfast was done by A to Zest and we had 18 hour slow braised Herefordshire beef served with parmesan mashed potato, tenderstem broccoli, and a parmesan crisp. The vegetarians had root-en-croute with tasty sides, and for pudding we had caramel apple crumble tart served with thick cream.

We feel incredibly lucky to have Edd Taylor as our photographer. We were after natural, in-the-moment, candid shots and he captured the day beautifully. Some of my favourite pictures were when he caught my mum’s first look at me and also Oliver’s sister Gemma, her face was priceless! It has been so nice to be able to keep looking back at these. Edd was with us all day until around 7pm and he blended into the wedding so perfectly, we barely knew he was there.

Best part of the day

When I walked into the room and saw Oliver stood there, my heart just felt so full. After the ceremony we were making our way back down the aisle and I spotted our family and friends who couldn’t attend (Covid restrictions) on a laptop screen and it was so nice to see them all happy and waving at us.

From one couple to another…

Don’t stress about the small stuff. I was so worried about all the little details but in the end the only thing that matters is you and your partner. Throughout the day your favourite people are just rooting for you, you’re so surrounded by love that no one will care if a couple of little things don’t go to plan. Also, take some time out during the day where it’s just the two of you. We sat outside near the fire pit with some fizz and just nattered away, it was perfect.
