Thicket Priory

I was lucky to be best man recently and the venue is just out of this world. Think of a swanky English country home and then double it, loved it so much. Tastefully decorated and really had the wow factor. Anna was so helpful for me and helped me plan a couple of things for my speech and without her it would have been impossible.

Where do we start to describe this perfect wedding venue for our only daughter’s wedding? With a huge thank you! Especially to Becca and of course Anna and Jess who were with us throughout from the initial enquiry to the arrival of the guests right up to the time we left on Sunday after breakfast. A special mention has to go to Becca who was by our side whatever was required whether it was a safety pin for holding up a gent’s trousers or a hug for an emotional brides mum and of course making sure the whole event ran like clockwork. The private chapel was romantic and intimate, and we loved the truly personal ceremony and of course the beautiful stained glass window backdrop.

As hoteliers and restaurant owners ourselves for many years we were probably more anxious about making sure everything was done to the highest standard… I can tell you it was! All the staff were so professional, the service was slick but personal and the food was the best anyone has ever tasted at any other wedding. Thank you to all the chefs involved. It was all truly excellent, and we cannot praise the catering staff enough. The ballroom looked magnificent, and we loved the surprise element with the ‘no peeking’ sign- genius!

Arranging the Teepee as an extra addition on the lawn outside was another feature we loved as it served as a lounge and the firepit made the perfect setting for groups to congregate. It also made a fabulous first night quiz event venue, where the guests mingled and met family and friends, they hadn’t seen for years due to the recent pandemic.

The bedrooms are so gorgeous especially the Bridal Suite and the little pantries are a delight. The guests loved exploring the quirky corridors and secret passageways and the whole atmosphere of staying in a priory was such a wonderful experience.

Thicket Priory was ours exclusively for the weekend, which is exactly what we wanted, the location spectacular and already our guests are forwarding pictures and sending us their amazing comments about the weekend. You made us feel like royalty. Thicket is a truly special venue, but the staff made it perfect.

My (now) husband and I were married at Thicket Priory on 29th February 2020. Words cannot fully capture how wonderful Anna and the team at Thicket Priory were from start to finish. Every visit was like coming home and the love poured into the building by the owner Bruce can be seen throughout. Everything is thought through to the last detail; from the venue itself to each element of our wedding. We cannot express our thanks enough to everyone at Thicket Priory; it is truly the most special of treasures.

For years, I’d heard people describe their wedding day as the best day of their lives, and truthfully, I’d always thought it must be an exaggeration until I got married at Thicket Priory in April 2023. It truly was the best weekend of our lives.

Anna and the team are incredible. A huge asset to the stunning venue. Nothing was too much to ask, and Anna put my mind at ease from the moment we met her to view Thicket Priory for the first time. We booked the wedding in a relatively short time frame (four months before the wedding), and Anna was unflappable!

As a wedding planner myself to say I’m particular is an understatement, but Thicket delivered in every area. With a number of catering options to choose from (which many venues don’t offer you), we felt like we had control over what to serve, how it would be served, and the price point we wanted to work to. The bedrooms are all unique and kept to an incredibly high standard. The bar is very reasonably priced (especially to say they have you as a captive audience, so could charge a fortune!), the grounds are second to none, and the number of options for where to get married is a luxury many places can’t offer, and the team are just the best(cannot stress this enough).

If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful to gather your loved ones under one roof for a couple of nights, stop looking and book Thicket Priory. You will not be disappointed!

Thicket Priory is truly one of the most breathtaking venues, not only in Yorkshire, but within the UK. I have visited Thicket Priory as a supplier on several occasions, Anna and the team are warm, welcoming and so attentive – making sure you feel right at home in this stunning building. The attention to detail in the furnishings and styling is incredible. It is the perfect place to host any private getaway, wedding or celebration!

We stayed for 2 nights as our friends were getting married . The whole experience was brilliant and this was due to the stunning location and building but more so the Team who worked at Thicket Priory as they were exceptional and so friendly.

Lovely venue for any bride, especially those looking for a full weekend experience. Plenty of bedrooms to choose from, to host a big wedding party – all bedrooms are incredibly decorated, with a classic but modern style. The bridal suite and the groom prep room are both gorgeous – lots of space for those “getting ready” shots. The venue has got a chapel as well for intimate ceremonies, and the main ceremony room/reception room is stunning – with steps to lead the bride down the aisle. The gardens are fantastic, lots of space and photo opportunities at the lake and gazebo. The bar has got a lot of space, and opposite the main evening room, so that everyone feels close but people can find a quieter spot should they want to have a chat. The staff are extremely friendly and organised – Anna the GM is absolutely great, her calm and friendly personality show from the start that you are in good hands. Booking your wedding at Thicket Priory will be an amazing experience. I know a few brides getting married there and they have had simply the best things to say about their planning journey with this venue.

No words can accurately describe how magical and breathtaking Thicket Priory is! Becca and her team are the most amazing people and have helped us plan an incredible wedding. They have been attentive to our every need and have made this weekend so special! We will forever remember our time there!

We highly recommend Thicket Priory due to its uniqueness, its beauty, its staff professionalism, the beautiful gardens, and the romantic rooms. Everything basically! It was so wonderful to all be together in one place and all the suppliers recommended by Thicket have made our wedding even more special! Highly highly recommend you will not find better! The attention to detail was also incredible, and we are still on cloud nine even after a month!

Married October 2022

We got married here on Saturday and wow what an incredible day we had. Thicket Priory is absolutely stunning with the most beautiful grounds. The staff were amazing and went above and beyond throughout the whole day, as well as during the run up to the big day. Zoe, Anna and Flame were unbelievable and worked so hard to ensure that our day was perfect from start to finish. The food was also faultless. I would recommend this idyllic place for your wedding, you won’t be disappointed.

From the moment we stepped foot in Thicket Priory, we knew it was our venue, and the process from that point on with you both has just been amazing. We couldn’t have asked for anything better, and all of our guests have been non-stop raving about how special and gorgeous it is (but we already knew that, didn’t we, because we were so in love with it!) It really is a very, very special place!

Becca, a special thanks for all of your help on the weekend of the wedding. From helping us get set up on Friday to keeping me calm on Saturday and being there to make sure every last detail was as it needed to be. I couldn’t have done it without you.

The wider Thicket Priory staff were also brilliant; everyone was so friendly, and it really did feel like we were at home!

Finally, thank you for our gorgeous wedding gift. I had tears in my eyes when we opened it, and it’s going up pride of place in the house this weekend over the stairs, so every day we walk down, we are reminded of the best weekend of our lives at our very special place.

Married September 2023

Absolutely amazing venue which is truly unique. The grounds are spectacular even on a rainy day and the priory itself manages to showcase it’s history together with modern touches all finished to the highest of standards. To have the potential of 35 bedrooms for guests in such a special venue is something which stands out from elsewhere. We were lucky enough to attend the venue and enjoy some amazing canapés (surf and turf canapés were out of this world good!) and a fabulous meal. If you are looking for a wedding venue it absolutely should be on the list, Anna and the staff were fabulous and I honestly can’t imagine anyone being anything other than amazed at the whole set up! Go for it!

Thicket Priory – where’s that? Those were the words spoken to our son when we were on holiday last year and he announced that not only had she said “yes” but also that the date and venue for the big day were fixed. Sitting thousands of miles away, little could we imagine the treat that was  laying in store for us. Looking at the photographs on the website whetted our appetite but it was impossible to visualise the real thing so on our return to the UK we contacted Anna and arranged to meet her one cold September afternoon. She became the face of Thicket Priory for us. Her bright and bubbly personality with a casual, relaxed attitude but an underlying exacting eye for detail is exceptional. Having shown us the general layout, we were encouraged to wander around on our own, look into every room, and simply get lost for a couple of hours. That was when the magic set in. Each room is unique with simple but beautiful harmonious decor and furnishings. There are also little anecdotes or a synopsis of their history over the centuries. We knew that our son’s wedding was going to be a very special weekend. That weekend has just passed. Thicket Priory become “home” to our two families and their guests. From the informal meal in the Old Kitchen on Friday lunchtime through to breakfast on Sunday morning, nothing was too much trouble for Anna and her Team. We were able to chill outside in the sun on Friday afternoon, wander round the grounds and lake, and simply absorb the wonderful ambience of this lovely old building. Saturday morning was equally relaxed despite the comings and goings of hairdressers, florists, caterers, photographers and registrars alongside more guests. Even with so much activity, there remained an air of tranquility befitting our special occasion. The wedding itself was delightful. Little touches such as Anna letting our Grandson strike the gong to commence proceedings made it extra special. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire time that we spent in this stunning and lovingly restored old house. It’s a shame it all went so quickly.

Thank you for making all our dreams come true, from check-in to check-out everything has been exceptional and overly exceeded our expectations.

Married November 2022

From the moment we walked in, we knew this would be where we get married. The venue is absolutely beautiful, the gardens, the chapel and being able to have our family and friends stay for a weekend made it that bit more special.

Jess, Anna and the team were fabulous throughout, took away any stresses we had and made our weekend one we would never forget.

We had the most amazing wedding weekend at Thicket Priory just before the world went crazy and lockdown began. And how lucky we were to have a weekend filled with love and laughter in the most stunning venue! We loved spending the Friday evening with our closest friends and family, eating pie and peas round a huge table in the old kitchen. Having the whole venue to ourselves felt like we were welcoming our guests into our home (albeit a very large home!) Anna and her team made sure that our ceremony and wedding day itself went without a hitch. Their attention to detail is superb and they went above and beyond to make sure that our little people were entertained and involved in the day too. We loved every second and can’t recommend Thicket Priory enough!
