The Setting

Dating back to the early 1800’s, The West Mill has been fully restored and converted into a beautiful wedding venue. A World Heritage site and originally built as a cotton spinning mill, this building played an important part in the industrial revolution.

Occupying a superb setting on the riverbanks of the ancient River Derwent and the waterfall over the historic weir, The West Mill is set over four floors and is licenced for civil weddings and wedding receptions.

The Vibe

The striking industrial history of The West Mill provides a memorable setting for your wedding and the sympathetic renovation will retain the historical architecture of the 1800’s. Exposed brick walls, original blue black brick tiled floors, cast iron beans and a unique cast iron ceiling together with handpicked pieces of furniture and décor offer a truly unique venue filled with character and atmosphere.

As your guests arrive they will enter into The South Courtyard, which is perfect for afternoon drinks and photographs.

The Gallery is the entrance area into The West Mill and this atmospheric room embraces the industrial aesthetic, with cast iron columns and a polished concrete floor. Overlooking the southern courtyard, this room has good natural light and these two areas combine well for reception drinks and canapés.

The Cotton Quarter is where your civil service will take place. This ceremony room is the main room licenced for Civil Ceremonies from 35 to 160 guests and has stunning views of the Derwent river and the parkland of Darley Park.

The Breakfast Room provides an impressively original space for your wedding breakfast. Guests will eat under the barrel vaulted brick arches with the exposed brickwork between the Georgian paned windows offering an industrial and urban atmosphere.

Following your wedding breakfast, your guests are invited to make their way to The Spinning Room, which has been created specifically for your evening reception. The Spinning Room has a reclaimed bar installed, vintage Chesterfield sofas, an oak sprung dance floor and booth seating. The room’s fantastic natural acoustics make this space the perfect party room.

The West Mill is a no corkage charge wedding venue and they give you the option to supply your own daytime drinks without any charge; during your drinks reception, wedding breakfast and toast drink. A card paid bar will be available for your evening reception.
