The Setting

Raemoir House is located in the heart of Royal Deeside, approximately 25 minutes from Aberdeen airport, served from most parts of the UK as well as benefitting from direct flights from a number of European destinations. By train, the closest station is Stonehaven, approximately 20 minutes away with hourly trains from Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as direct trains from London Kings Cross. Raemoir are able to assist with hire cars or pickups on request. Of course, you also have the option to arrive on the front lawn via helicopter!

Aberdeenshire is blessed with clear, sparkling rivers, impressive mountains and abundant wildlife. Just minutes from Raemoir is the pretty town of Banchory and nearby there are numerous visitor attractions, including Balmoral, the summer home of the Royal family, Braemar and the Cairngorms, an outdoor wonderland. Locally, there is an abundance of golf courses, fly fishing, historic Castles, farm tours, gliding, Royal Lochnagar distillery, pony trekking and cycle routes. There’s everything from days out to days in – if you just fancy making the most of your surroundings and holing up for a few days then the size of the rooms and the spread of the secluded grounds at Raemoir mean many activities can also be organised on site.

The Vibe

Raemoir House offers a warm, relaxed environment which, despite the luxurious touches, will feel like your own cosy, country house. Whether relaxing by the fire in the wood panelled lounge playing board games, or wandering around the beautiful grounds, you will find Raemoir offers a unique sense of escape from the hustle and bustle of busy life. The owner’s invite all guests to treat the House as if it were their own, with a team of staff on hand throughout to help them relax and enjoy themselves.

The History

Raemoir House is hidden away on a private estate surrounded by ancient woodland. The main house was built in the Georgian era and was once a hotel famous for entertaining Royalty, Politicians, travelling dignitaries as well as TV stars of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and an array of media greats such as Oasis, Van Morrison, Cliff Richard, Ronnie Corbett and Hollywood actor Charlton Heston all of whom earned it the reputation of being the “Claridge’s of the North”. Now the House is offered as an exclusive use wedding and event venue by the current owners, Neil and Julie Rae, who very much like those who rent the house to treat it like their very own Scottish Downton Abbey – a secluded estate with their own team of staff.

The Space

Raemoir House has five public rooms downstairs from the quirky and characterful Big Fish Bar to the original Oval Ballroom. Each of them are rooms in their own right or can be open-linked by adjoining doors which means that all rooms flow together with the bar opening up onto the front lawns. Although the house retains it Georgian sense of grandeur, the house lends itself beautifully to boho-style weddings, with a very relaxed and warm sense of history.

As Raemoir is located in Scotland, couples can legally marry anywhere on the grounds, inside the house or at historic sites nearby. Raemoir’s unique “Woodland Cathedral” is a tree-covered forest clearing adjacent to the house which is perfect for couples who dream of a woodland ceremony. Inside the main house, 70 – 80 guests can be accommodated for ceremony and reception with space for 40 – 50 additional evening guests. For larger weddings, they have a seasonal marquee available. As Raemoir benefits from multiple function spaces, there is adequate space inside the house for ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast to be hosted in independent spaces.

The Bedrooms

Their suites and bedrooms are all individually designed, combining rich history with modern comforts to ensure a great stay. There are 13 ensuite bedrooms in the main house, and another four rooms including two suites in the Ha’Hoose (seperate cottage behind the main house) which was the original 17th century house. All bedrooms are en-suite with large flat screens, free Wi-Fi and tea and coffee facilities. New for 2022, the main house will benefit from the additional of a Pamper Suite adjacent to the Master Suite. Raemoir normally sleeps 32 people, but they are usually able to work their magic and squeeze a few more in and for families, some spaces can be used as family rooms. Oh, and dogs are more than welcome!

Destination Weddings

Raemoir House is the ideal location for a destination wedding for couples in England or further afield who’d love to escape with their guests to enjoy a quintessentially Scottish experience in the complete seclusion of their own private country estate. Most couples who choose Raemoir as their wedding venue book 2 – 3 nights stay with their guests, during which we can offer a wide variety of highland activities on site as well as a full staff at your disposal, including a House Manager, Housekeeping team, Private Chef and a team of bar and catering staff. Just some of the activities they can arrange onsite include: Highland Games, Archery, Falconry or Whisky Tasting.

Large Weddings

Their Marquee (April to December) is connected to the house by a weatherproof link so it can be used in any weather for a small additional fee. The marquee comes complete with wooden flooring, ivory lining, heating, lighting, furniture, luxurious toilets and electricity eliminating all the difficulty, expense and hard work of a typical marquee wedding. The marquee in its standard form can accommodate 200 guests, but can be extended for up to 360.

Food and Drinks

With a private chef and full catering staff, Raemoir is able to cater to all your needs, making the best use of locally sourced produce. Raemoir’ s history of 2 Rosette and Michelin recommended cuisine is an integral part of the Raemoir experience. Their award-winning Chef, recently invited to the Masterchefs of Great Britain, is happy to discuss any requirements or suggestions you may have whether for indoors or out using our Fire Pit or even a picnic out on our lawns. Wedding menu prices are £57.50 as standard per person, with a variety of other options for couple’s guests to enjoy throughout their stay. Whilst Raemoir do not allow alcohol to be brought in from outside the premises, the bar is open throughout your stay (either cash or on account for guests) and drink prices for a standard beer / wine or mixer are typically £3.50 to £4.00 per drinks, making it very budget friendly.
