About
Setting

Penhein Glamping, located in the heart of Penhein Farm, offers a unique woodland wedding experience. This multi-award-winning glampsite provides a picturesque setting for intimate celebrations of up to 50 guests. The venue combines breathtaking countryside views with luxury accommodation and versatile communal spaces, creating a perfect backdrop for your special day.

Ceremony

Celebrant-led ceremonies or blessings at Penhein can take place anywhere on the site, giving couples complete freedom to choose a location that resonates with their vision. Options include the Wildflower Meadow, which offers sweeping valley views, the elegant stretch marquee known as Chehel Sotoun, or a secluded woodland area.

Reception

Receptions can also be hosted in a variety of locations, from the Wildflower Meadow to the spacious stretch marquee equipped with electricity and lighting. For smaller gatherings, the Petro indoor space accommodates up to 30 guests, offering a cosy and versatile option.

Accommodation

Penhein offers eight custom-made alachigh (pronounced ala-cheeg) tents, each blending simplicity with comfort.

  • Atalanta Tents: Five luxurious tents-The Coombe, The Cribbau, The Oakes, The Park, and The Slades-feature king-size or twin beds, additional sleeping arrangements for children or adults, and private outdoor spaces with firepits. Each tent has an en-suite flushing toilet and access to a dedicated bathing area, including Victorian-style roll-top baths or monsoon showers.
  • Artemis Tents: Three award-winning tents-Cae Solomon, Castroggi, and Catta Dee-include private outdoor showers, larger loo pods, and family-sized hammocks. Castroggi is often recommended for the wedding couple.
Food & Drink

Couples can choose to self-cater or hire their preferred suppliers with no corkage fees or commissions. The site includes large firepits, electricity, and water access for caterers. Alternatively, Penhein’s own catering team can create a bespoke menu, or couples can select from a list of local street vendors offering options like wood-fired pizzas, cocktails, and coffee.

Sustainability

Sustainability is central to Penhein’s ethos. Initiatives include:

  • Frames for the alachighs are made from sustainably sourced wood.
  • Firewood and woodchips are sourced from windblown or dead timber on the farm.
  • Recycling facilities for guests and donations of unopened food to local food banks.
  • Energy-saving measures like LED lighting and tap pressure limiters.
  • Annual tree planting and hedgerow replanting to support biodiversity.
  • A private water supply from the farm’s borehole provides fresh, chlorine-free water.
  • These efforts have earned Penhein multiple awards, including the Green Tourism Gold Award, the Welsh Green Key Award, and The Green Parent Travel Award.
Local Area

Penhein’s rural location in Monmouthshire, South Wales, is surrounded by natural beauty. Nearby attractions include:

  • Wentwood Forest, accessible by foot, offers over 2,000 acres of ancient woodland.
  • The Forest of Dean is a short drive away, with its untamed landscapes and the River Wye.
  • Chepstow, home to a 900-year-old castle.
  • Cardiff, the vibrant capital of Wales.
Getting There

Despite its secluded feel, Penhein is well-connected:

  • 20 minutes by car from the M4.
  • Close to both Bristol and Cardiff airports.
  • Accessible via train to Newport (mainline) or Chepstow (local), followed by a short taxi ride.
FAQs
Can we have more than 50 guests?

Yes, this is possible. We can accommodate up to 70 people on request, but this will require arranging additional camping accommodation (through bell or private camping tents) if necessary. If the extras are day guests only, this is also possible. Extra dining tables, chairs, etc., must also be hired. There will be a small charge per person (per night if camping) for any additional guests above 50 and any extra hire costs.

Is Penhein a licensed wedding venue?

Although we do not currently have a wedding licence, we are submitting our application to have one in place for 2025. Guests who have previously undergone a legal ceremony or registration at an official, legally recognised location can also have a wedding ceremony at Penhein.

If we only want to stay one night is that possible?

Penhein has a minimum stay of two nights. We often recommend to guests wishing to have their wedding at Penhein to look at booking a three night stay or more to allow time for the setting up process if extra bell tents or other additional requirements are needed. It also allows extra time for decorating the site.

We see you have an Administration Fee. What is this for?

Although we are a 'dry hire', experience shows that it is the case that we are still needed to help with various enquiries and with the on-site set-up. The Administration Fee, therefore, covers our additional time and costs (e.g. liaison with suppliers, ensuring appropriate insurance is in place, extra site visits from the wedding couple and/or suppliers, additional use of utilities for suppliers and campers (electricity, water, etc), mowing of the wildflower meadow for camping and parking, an additional rubbish collection and the provision of a TENs licence if required. We can email our brochure with full details.

What is the earliest time we can arrive on our booked arrival day?

Assuming guests prefer to hire the glampsite for a weekend (Friday to Monday), you will have access from 4pm Friday until 11am Monday. If you would like to arrive earlier than 4pm, we are happy to accommodate this for a few people, but we will still be cleaning the site after previous guests have left. If you or your suppliers do not feel you can work to this timetable, it may be worth considering taking the site from the Wednesday before the wedding party. The 4pm/11am check-in/checkout is standard for all our stays.

If guests are are staying overnight, what are the bathing facilities?

Each tent has its own 'loo pod' with a flushing toilet. Three tents have a private, enclosed hot shower immediately next to them. There is our wonderful luxurious shower block for the remaining five tents with underfloor heating, monsoon showers, and a Victorian-style rolltop bath, each in its own private cubicle.
