The Setting

Hatfield House is set within the spectacular and magnificent grounds of Hatfield Park, Hertfordshire, where Queen Elizabeth I spent much of her childhood. Hatfield House offers all the advantages of a countryside venue whilst being located just 20 minutes from Central London.

The venue is easily accessible with excellent transport links be it by car or train.

The Vibe

The Old Palace is a Grade I listed building built in 1485 by the Bishop of Ely and was used as a nursery for King Henry VIII’s three children in 1538. A historic venue being most famous for where Queen Elizabeth I held her first council of state, its medieval brickwork, beautiful wall hangings and stunning gardens makes it a perfect setting for any wedding celebration.

The beautiful and open Knot Garden, attached to the Old Palace, is based on Elizabethan patterns, and provides exquisite photo opportunities. The Raised Lawn is perfect for outdoor blessings, drinks receptions, and lawn games, with breathtaking views of Hatfield House, home to Lord and Lady Salisbury, who reside there today.

The Old Palace can accommodate large weddings from 80 – 250 guests on long or round banqueting tables, and space for a DJ and dance floor. Their spacious bar is attached to the room, meaning guests do not have to wander far for drinks, and is the perfect area to add additional entertainment such as photo booths.

Their other venue, The Riding School, blends historic features with modern architecture to offer a contemporary alternative. Located in the Stable Yard, its origin was to accommodate the horses and the family’s motor cars. In 2010 The Riding School was transformed into what you see today. The glass roof floods the space with natural daylight, and the mezzanine level adds versatile characteristics to the venue. This is a fitting venue for smaller weddings of 40 – 110 guests. The Riding School can also be hired out in conjunction with the Old Palace.

Both venues are licensed for civil ceremonies, have ample free parking and direct train links with Hatfield Station adjacent to Hatfield Park.

Hatfield House is a renowned filming location for blockbuster hits such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Batman Begins, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and Netflix productions such as The Crown, The Great, and Bridgerton.
