A ‘Home Tour’ of The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

Written by Emma Hla

There’s something very magical about the City of Bath. So much so, I even started looking up houses for sale after my last jaunt! We have lots of fave wedding folk in this area including Perfect Day Bride and Britten in the nearby Bradford-on-Avon and of course Prezola with their to-die-for townhouse HQ! So it’s no surprise that the venues on offer in this City are also right-up-our-street.

The crème de la crème of Bath is The Royal Crescent and in the middle of this grand crescent is the aptly named The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa. I visited and stayed here myself last year and was so in awe I made a promise to photograph it properly and share it with you. The best person to capture the venue as I saw it was Emma from Heart Full of Tea. A Bath-based photographer, Emma has such a beautiful eye for light, detail and tone. In short her pictures are totally yummy.

As a wedding photographer who has seen a fair number of venues, I asked Emma for her own take on the The RCH and this is what she had to say;

“I headed off to the historical The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa last week to meet with their event team and photograph the venue and WOW! What a wonderful morning I had! I have to admit, sometimes these historical venues can feel a bit stuffy and perhaps out of touch with today’s bride & groom, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to be warmly welcomed by a passionate team who clearly adore this building and venue.”

Emma continues “From both a photographers view point and also a ”once-bride”, The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is a tranquil, yet versatile venue with that added touch of luxury. When photographers walk around a venue we are looking for the way it flows and of course the way the light falls, so we often view venues with a completely different perspective to couples. Most importantly to me, I think one of the biggest features for a photographer is versatility and focusing on encouraging natural engagement between the couple. The combination of the historical architectural features with modern-day styling gives The Royal Crescent that edge that still allows you to make the area your own – it’s light and offers you space with the beauitful backdrop of Bath. From an outdoor ceremony to cocktails in the Spa Garden, and you can even add a large canopy tent in the acre of private garden. Yes an acre of private garden, in Bath! I was so surprised by this and the opportunities the venue offers for your celebration. I came away feeling inspired and would be happy to recommend and shoot at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa.”

Pretty long intro I must admit, but worth it for this venue! Read on to meet Sarah and discover the beauty of this Somerset gem…

Notes from The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

Sarah:

The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is located in the two central mansion buildings of the iconic Royal Crescent Bath. From our Concierge who greets you at the door and valet parks your car, to the waiter serving you a crisp glass of Taittinger Champagne, a warm welcome at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is always assured.

The hotel offers one acre of beautiful serene gardens, 45 individually decorated rooms and suites and un-rivalled service and attention to detail. Each and every member of our team is dedicated to providing our guests with a bespoke and personalised service.

The RCH is a very unique setting for a wedding day that will be sure to create lasting memories to treasure forever.

There is so many wonderful things to love about The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, firstly the beauty of the iconic landmark building (this goes without saying) secondly it’s the amazing sense of space that you get once you pass through the mansion doors and through into the hotels spectacular landscaped gardens. The hotel offers an authentic sense of place that is so hard to find in a city centre venue anywhere else in the world.

The hotel was fully refurbished between 2013-2015 with The Bath House undergoing a full regeneration in 2016. Each one of the 45 Suites and Rooms have been individually decorated with the hotels heritage in mind but bringing in some beautiful contemporary twists that create the WOW factor that guests regularly comment on when visiting. All of the public spaces have been decorated in neutral calming tones with colour accents that do not impose themselves on the overall relaxed colour scheme. This creates the ideal setting for a bride and groom to truly make the hotel their own for the duration of their special day.

It’s pretty hard to choose a favourite space in the hotel as each room offers a special charm that is impossible not to love! However the absolute favourite has to be The Sir Percy Blakeney Suite, this is one of three Master Suites that we have at the hotel, but it is the only one with dual aspect of both the Royal Crescent lawn and the hotels spectacular gardens, with its restored ornate plaster ceiling and beautiful four poster bed its one not to be missed!

Couples planning their wedding at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa can expect a friendly expert approach from our highly experienced events team from the moment that they make their initial enquiry; through to the moment they depart the hotel as a newly married couple. We take time to listen to our couples to ensure that every detail of their dream day is taken care of, allowing the happy couple and their guests to truly enjoy their Royal Crescent experience when celebrating such a momentous occasion.

Every wedding at the hotel is different; this is the true beauty of having your wedding at the hotel, it is so versatile in that some may choose to have a ceremony in the beautifully landscaped Wedding Garden where as some prefer the quintessential grandeur of The Sir Percy Blakeney Suite or some may choose to get married in a local church and be chauffer driven to the hotel in a stylish chauffer driven car for the wedding breakfast and reception.

We are able to cater for smaller more intimate weddings of up to 40 guests as well as larger parties up to 150 guests, should the couple choose to take Exclusive use of the entire venue. If Exclusive Use is taken then the world really is their oyster, we can work with them to arrange a marquee on the croquet lawn, to arrange beautiful venue styling or arrange activities for their guests to enjoy during the drinks reception or throughout the evening, the options are endless!

2017 is a very important year at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, this year we celebrate 250 years since the foundation stone was laid on the world known landmark that is the Royal Crescent building. To celebrate we have a whole host of celebratory RC250 products and services for guests to enjoy, it’s the perfect year to get married at The RCH in this 250th anniversary year!
