A ‘Home Tour’ of Newington House

Written by Emma Hla
Newington House is a stunning 17th Century stately home set within 50 acres of impeccable Oxfordshire countryside and exudes quintessentially British grace and character. Guests are warmly invited through the gates to create their own unforgettable experiences within the grandeur of this country retreat, in an atmosphere that is both relaxing and welcoming.

One recent guest was Gyan Gurung, the photographer behind our last beautiful Home Tour, and today he’s sharing these stunning images of Newington House and a view of the venue that’s exclusive to Coco Wedding Venues.

We asked Alex, a member of the Nettleton family, to tell us a little more about this marquee wedding venue. We hope you fall in love with it as much as we have…

Notes from Newington House

Alex says…

The story of Newington House is impossibly romantic. Built in the 17th Century as a gift for a homesick Italian princess by her British husband, the house is styled on Rubens’ collection of engravings, “The Palaces of Genoa”, the look is a beautiful blend of both classic English and Italian design.

Newington House was lovingly restored by the Nettleton Family in the 1980’s and it’s interior reflects the house’s Italian influence and is very classical and elegant in design. Many of the original features remain which add to history and grand feel of the house.

The classical detailing around the ceilings and doorways is incredibly intricate and beautiful, the panelled drawing room has fluting and medallions on the doorcases and cornices that match the porch deception and the hall has an amazing deep triglyph frieze cornice. These architectural details are so thoughtful and make the rooms feel even more special.

Newington House offers a completely flexible service and we pride ourselves on crafting unique experiences for our guests, meaning that no two weddings are the same. You can choose to have complete exclusivity over the entire estate, or mix and match between the grounds and a selection of rooms for your wedding reception.

Newington House is primarily a marquee-focused venue, with receptions taking place in a marquee on the back lawn. Couples get to enjoy the grandeur of the house as a backdrop to their reception whilst over looking the landscaped gardens and river Thame. The front porch is licensed for civil ceremonies, allowing couples to get married under the beautiful Corinthian porch with their guests seated on the drive and lawn in front.

The immaculate grounds, which feature a lake, rose garden and ancient yew trees, are transformed by the seasons, allowing for stunning photography against an array of backdrops.

Thank you again to Gyan for these beautiful shots, it’s honestly such an honour to have you capture our venues and help us tell their story.
