A ‘Home Tour’ of Brinkburn Northumberland

Written by Emma Hla

Boy is today’s feature a treat…

A ‘Home Tour’ of the magical secluded, historic, wooded destination that is Brinkburn Northumberland.

Melissa Beattie Photography has beautifully captured this wedding venue for us and Mark & Emma, owners of Brinkburn, have all the details…

Notes from Brinburn Northumberland

Mark & Emma:

Brinkburn Northumberland is an ancient, rural, romantic, landscape. It has been lived in, farmed and used as a place of retreat and solitude for over three thousand years. The landscape comprises woodland, a steep ravine, the river Coquet and the location of an iron age fort, the Priory buildings, Mill Manor House, the Stables and Gate Keepers Cottages. Even for those who live in Northumberland where grand castles, country houses, and great scenery exist, they see Brinkburn as a beautiful and unique combination of landscape and buildings.

The buildings are listed so we worked carefully to design comfortable ‘make yourself at home’ modern spaces with simple luxury accommodation, chic and fun entertaining spaces and great party areas.

The combination of a beautiful and secluded environment the proximity to a consecrated church and the potential conversion of the Stables into living accommodation provided Emma and myself with the resources we needed to make something special happen in Northumberland. It was this challenge that spurred us on to leave London and head North.

After all the twists and turns we were granted a wedding license in 2012 and have been working with Brides & Grooms ever since.

All our couples have some connection with the North East even if they live as far away as Australia. The Brinkburn Team organises and plans events from a distance and accommodate up to sixteen guests over the weekend; with the wedding party arriving the day before, the wedding taking place on the Saturday, followed by a relaxing day afterwards for family and friends before people leave.

Brinkburn has lots of different locations to suit each part of the day. To begin with the arrival and approach down the track opens up the scene to a magical hidden spot. The back drop of the magnificent Priory and Manor House is a fabulous foil for the tipis nestled down and sheltered alongside the river. The White Room is used for civil ceremonies, the Priory for blessings and weddings, our two tipi tents from Scandinavia are perfect for dining up to 120 revellers followed by dancing and the bands. This flexibility means that a wedding flows from ceremony to reception into dinner and through to evening guests arriving, creating a night time of dancing, cosy log fires, fun, fairy lights and fabulous festoons.

Our couples like Brinkburn because it transports them to a different place, whether it is because of the stars at night, we are just on the edge of the Dark Skies Park, the journey down the drive through the woods, the lack of mobile signal, or the constant sound of the river passing by. Our Brides & Grooms are all looking to make their own wedding in a beautiful natural place and we are here to help them.

Wedding Day Styles & Tips!

  • Our in house florist dreams up with you a tablescape of simple luxury.
  • Our Bar man will shake up a seasonal cocktail to get the party started, currently an autumnal Northumbrian treat based on home grown Quince and our local Hepple gin.
  • For evening food for friends and family on Friday night we can organise a street food wood fired pizza van.

This is absolutely my biggest venue crush right now… If you want to see a beautiful recent real wedding and film, then take a little look here. Otherwise, you can explore all of the nitty gritty details on the directory.

If you want to see this beautiful venue in person, you’re in luck! There’s a Wedding Open Weekend happening this Saturday & Sunday, check out the details on our Event Diary.

Thank you so much to Mark & Emma for showing us around Brinkburn Northumberland!

Lots of love…
