A Midsummer’s Garden Party at Larmer Tree Gardens

Written by Emma Hla

This venue is epic… I mean big summery, peacock roaming, croquet-playing, secret garden epic. Larmer Tree Gardens is, quite literally, the stuff of dreams.

With a simple yet pretty write-up by Bride Natasha, beautiful images by Lisa Dawn Photography and the most creative and romantic wedding favours I’ve ever seen, this is a truly captivating love story.

Natasha: The inspiration for our wedding was a midsummer’s dream garden party with lots of lanterns, laughter and cocktails. We wanted something a bit different from our venue and the Larmer Tree Gardens really captivated us and provided the perfect location – it is such a stunning garden with colonial buildings, a Victoria amphitheatre stage and peacocks wandering around. We both knew that we wanted a traditional church wedding and the little quintessentially English village church in Tollard Royal was so perfect and just down the road from where I grew up.

The church was full of flowers including greeny /cream hydrangeas, cream roses, wild cow parsley and splashes of coral from stunning peonies which all went beautifully with the suitable soft grey of the Bridesmaid dresses.

We had absolutely perfect English summer weather so at the reception our guests wandered around grounds with champagne in hand, reclined in deck chairs and playing croquet on the beautiful lawns. It was perfect as there was a very relaxed vibe with lots of laughter. We had a magician mingling amongst the guests surprising and entertaining them with magic.

After the dinner and as it became dusk we had lanterns strung from the trees and hundreds of little colourful jars with candles that lit the pathways back onto the lawn where served cocktails. Guests were then taken down to the little lake where they were given their wedding favours: floating lotus flowers with little candles for everyone to place on the pond and make a wish.  It was magical to see them all glowing and floating across the lake.

We ended the perfect day with dancing in the beautiful pavilion to the sounds of a fantastic live band. It was the perfect day and the perfect venue and everything we could have hoped for.
