I’m going back-to-basics today with the tricky conundrum of the gift list – should you…? Shouldn’t you…? Do you actually need one when you already have a kettle and a toaster…? Is it a bit rude to ask for more when attending a wedding is already spendy enough for your guests…?
Well my answer would be YES. You should probably get yourself a gift list and pronto.
It’s still a debate in my house, three years after our wedding day. Why…? Because I think we got it spectacularly wrong. My husband-to-be didn’t want one and to be fair at the time I sort of understood why, but my gut was saying hang on, you’re about to make a mistake. His argument was that we didn’t need anything, so why should we be asking for more. But in deciding against a gift list our mistake was not guiding our guests.
Guests may express a little sigh if they see “your presence is present enough” on your invitations because, although the sentiment is 100% spot on (we used this on our invites!), it sort of leaves them in a little bit of a pickle. It’s now them asking the questions; Should we buy a gift…? Shouldn’t we buy a gift…? What should we buy…? Should we just put some cash in a card…? And so on. It all gets a little bit sticky.
So my friends, seriously give the gift list some consideration – it’s not being greedy, it’s being sensible.
By curating a gift list that’s accessible, has flexible price points and is super easy for guests to navigate then they’ll thank you for making life simple. They can then focus all their energies on the bigger debate – what should they wear!
So you may have noticed that our gift list provider of choice is Prezola.

But it’s the pulse of creativity running through this brand that always makes me come back to them. The brands they showcase are right up my street – as you’ll see – and in short, I bloody love them (rolls eyes at husband once again!).

Let’s talk interiors shall we…?
It’s absolutely no surprise this goes hand-in-hand with what we love to do. We obviously adore discovering and visiting new places and I have been known to get a little over-excited at various wedding venue décor decisions on my travels.
This is why we love Prezola – our chosen Gift List partner. Founder Ali is a renowned stylist and has an amazing eye for detail, so you know your Gift List is in great hands with the Prezola team and their chosen brands.
We’ve got a little round up of some of the colours and items we’re crushing on for 2017, but if you head over to our dedicated Gift List page you can discover some other articles you might be interested in, especially if you’re deciding whether a Gift List is for you.
That point where you’ve booked your venue and key suppliers but haven’t made the stationery decision, this is the point to have the chat my friends – hint: I didn’t have one thanks to the husband-to-be and I regret it! He still gets blamed.
Notes from Prezola
It’s that time of year again where colours of the year are unveiled and interior magazines predict the hottest trends of 2017. We like to stay on top of the latest trends at Prezola so our style-savvy couples have the very best for their wedding gift list and this year, it’s all about the colour!

“If you’ve not heard of the term Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) then you must have been hiding under a rock. It’s the new ‘thing’ and we have the super cool Danes to thank. Considered to be among the happiest people in the world, they might just be onto something…”
That little snippet is taken from my latest lifestyle feature over on B.LOVED where I look at how to hygge. Whilst for some this may be seen as a passing trend, the actual sense of hygge has been around for many years. Hygge is all about being connected, being in the moment, appreciating the small things, sharing intimacy and belonging to a community.
All of these sentiments are so true when it comes to weddings and indeed I think the ethos of hygge is a fundamental process in our decision making, whether we’re conscious of it or not. The venues we’re increasingly seeing are those that focus on the warm, friendly, home-from-home vibes that our relaxed couples crave. Our venue choices are also influenced by our own sense of style (obviously!) and our love for interiors, architecture and design. So with all of this in mind, we asked our Gift List partners Prezola to create a seasonally inspired hygge list.
I hope you like it… I’m off to light a candle!
Hygge is probably one of my favourite words at the moment and there’s no wonder why. This Danish act of creating a nice atmosphere is all about enjoying life with good people around you. When it’s dark outside and the weather’s looking glum, we all need that extra boost so fill your home with candles, wrap a thick blanket around you and feel all snuggly for winter.
These days, the minefield of wedding etiquette has thankfully eased and you’re generally able to create a wedding that breaks the norm here and there – or everywhere! – to create your own very special occasion that’s a true reflection of you both, and the same goes for your Gift List.
Friends and family dearly want to help you get set up in your shared home (even if you already live together), and with Prezola, the’ve got it covered. There’s 30,000 gorgeous gifts to choose from, supplied by 300 top homeware brands, including favourites like Wedgwood and The White Company, together with specialist boutique brands such as Nkuku and OKA, so you’re bound to find items you love. It’s everything the high street has to offer, in one place. And if you opt for our Premier Plus account, which costs just £59, you’ll be able to add an unlimited number of honeymoon funds, cash contributions, charity donations and custom gifts of your choice to your list, too with no fees, third parties or commission.
The key is to include lots of different price points, and both traditional items such as quality linen, cutlery and ovenware with more modern choices that show your personalities and hobbies, from art to outdoor items to useful kitchen equipment to fun experiences and day trips.
So where do you start..? Compiling a wedding list can be quite daunting with so much choice! Here’s my top must haves that should be on every modern couple’s wedding registry.
This is all about useful, quality items you’ll love cooking with for decades. It’s hard to beat Le Creuset, which is one of our number one sellers. It will last you a lifetime so think carefully about your colour choice if you’re the sort who likes to coordinate. Or just go ahead and mix it up with a rainbow of options!
Le Creuset Coastal Ovenware, £7.00 – £220.00.
A quality dinner service
A clean, simple, white dinner service is a must-have. Look for elegantly rendered fine, white bone china that’s versatile enough to dress up or down at your next gathering.
Wedgwood by Jasper Conran China, £16.00 – £170.00.
Quirky personalised gifts
One of the big trends we’re noticing in wedding gifts is for couples to reflect their true personalities by choosing bespoke gifts like personalised wall art or retro decor. It’s a chance for your guests to buy something that’s really you.
Home Sweet Home
Some of us like to take on a little more than we can chew at any one time, right…? If you find yourself saving for the wedding and that home renovation then here at Prezola we can actually help with those costs! As part of the New Beginnings inspiration you can ask guests for a cash contribution towards your new home, whether it’s that fancy bathroom that’s on the wishlist, a kitchen makeover or just general home improvements.
New Kitchen Fund, £50.
Electrical items are no longer the functional but necessary items on a wedding gift list! For instance, if one of you has a love of vinyl, you can enjoy listening to your favourite records wherever you go on one of our Crosley Cruiser Turntables. It’s modelled on a vintage suitcase and it’s surprisingly lightweight, available in a huge range of colours with a built-in stereo speaker too.
Crosley Cruiser Turntable, available in various colours £74.99 – £89.99.

There’s no hiding it, wedding gift lists often end up being ‘a girly thing’ for some reason. It’s basically shopping without the cost (which is fun for everyone) but can get commandeered by the bride by adding cute cushions and candle holders.
At Prezola, there’s something for everyone and for every style whether you’re into tech, food or adventure. Here’s a selection of items that we think the groom will love (and so will you!) and can even persuade him to get excited about gift lists!
Gifts for the Groom!
Ben Rothery Print, £30 – Decorate the man cave with some gentlemanly prints from up and coming artist Ben Rothery. His collection on Prezola has some breathtaking illustrations that look unbelievably real, alongside animals with higher fashion than Tom Hiddleston.

It’s not so expensive that it will scare off your guests and will make him slightly less grumpy in the mornings too.
