About

The Setting

Islington Town Hall, on fashionable Upper Street, is home to the Register Office and their Ceremony Rooms. This impressive listed building, with its grand façade and sweeping marble staircase, provides an elegant setting for your wedding ceremony, not to mention an impressive backdrop for your photographs. With several unique ceremony rooms, couples are able to choose which one suits their own style best.

The Town Hall is near to Highbury & Islington and Angel tube stations, and is surrounded by picturesque backstreets and small parks, as well as a wide variety of stylish restaurants and bars.

The Vibe

Islington Town Hall offers couples a chic city venue, as well as experienced and friendly registrars to conduct your ceremony.

The Canonbury Suite – 2 guests

The newest ceremony room at Islington Town Hall provides an intimate, bijou setting for ‘cere-minis’. The Canonbury Suite is the perfect space for a city elopement, a relaxed affair before a larger celebration, or celebrating in elegant style with your very nearest and dearest. This room has been designed to reflect the heritage of the Town Hall, but with a romantic modern twist, and features wood panelled walls, a beautiful stained-glass window, velvet furniture and curated décor in gold, teal, and powder pink.

Ceremonies in the Canonbury Suite are shorter, simple ceremony options as standard, offered for couples who would prefer this kind of ceremony. Enhanced ceremonies including full personalisation are available upon request, subject to availability.

The Council Chamber – 50 guests on weekdays, 85 guests on weekends

At the top of the Town Hall’s impressive marble staircase is the largest room available for ceremonies – the Council Chamber. This large room features a vaulted ceiling and beautiful stained-glass windows, and despite the size and capacity of this grand space, the seating layout retains intimacy. The horseshoe seating means none of your guests will be more than five rows from the happy couple. Thus, even much smaller parties do not feel overwhelmed during a ceremony.

In the Council Chamber, you are able to fully customise your ceremony and add personal touches, with their registrars’ help. If you choose a weekend ceremony, you are also able to meet with your own registrar to discuss your arrangements for the big day.

The Mayor’s Parlour – 4 guests

The Mayor’s Parlour is a place where many dignitaries have been received and entertained over the years, and is oak-panelled and luxuriously furnished in red leather. The centrepiece of the room is the built-in fireplace, in front of which couples can make their vows. For those seeking an intimate ceremony in a grand setting, there could be no better choice than the Mayor’s Parlour.

In the Mayor’s Parlour, you are able to fully customise your ceremony and add personal touches, with their registrars’ help. If you choose a Saturday ceremony, you are also able to meet with your own registrar to discuss your arrangements for the big day.

The Richmond Suite – 60 guests

With a more traditional layout than the Council Chamber but with the same grandeur of the Town Hall’s 1920s design, the Richmond Suite’s original Art Deco features will provide a perfect setting for your special day. The room provides an excellent space for any happy couple, featuring oak panelling, high, elaborate ceilings, and a beautifully ornate fireplace.

In the Richmond Suite, you are able to fully customise your ceremony and add personal touches, with their registrars’ help. You are also able to meet with your own registrar to discuss your arrangements for the big day.

Room 99 – 20 guests

Refurbished in 2022 with a mid-century feel and tasteful simplicity in oak, grey and white, this room features parquet floors, and a beautiful oak mantelpiece with circular mirror as a focal point. Large windows provide ample natural light and with three Italian chandeliers and comfortable velvet chairs, Room 99 provides a popular and chic setting for your ceremony.

Ceremonies in Room 99 are shorter, simple ceremony options as standard, offered for couples who would prefer this kind of ceremony. Enhanced ceremonies including full personalisation are available upon request, subject to availability.

The Angel Suite ante room – 8 people

The Angel Suite is available to hire by couples who want a space to arrive a little bit early and relax in before the ceremony, either together as a couple, or with your best people.

The sister room to The Canonbury Suite, this beautiful new ante room is just inside the entrance of the Town Hall and features lots of natural light, a dressing table and a full-length mirror, perfect for heading to on your arrival to make those final touches.

One pet can be brought to your ceremony in either the Canonbury Suite, Council Chamber or Room 99.

There is step free access to all ceremony rooms, and there are accessible bathrooms for you and your guests.

You can check availability for all their rooms and book your date on their website.
